645th Aero Squadron, AEF
The booklet reproduced here is one of the few extant souvenirs kept by Ellis Dean Fuller (1897 - 1978) from his service in the American Expeditionary Force of World War I.
The left column below contains typed transcriptions of the booklet. The right column contains a scanned image of the corresponding page from the original booklet, which was printed by Royer & Ce, Nancy. Errors in the transcription reflect errors in the original copy and are left intact for authenticity.
Underlined names are hyperlinked to additional information about the person. Individual biographical page updating remains a work in progress.

Historical Notes: According to The Order of Battle of the United States Land Forces in the World War (page 1024), the 645th Aero Squadron (Supply) was originally organized as the 126th Aero Squadron (Supply) at Kelly Field, Texas, in September 1917. The squadron went overseas in January 1918 via Garden City and the Port of Hoboken, New Jersey. The unit became the 645th Aero Squadron (Supply), AEF, in February 1918. The 645th remained overseas until June 1919 and was disbanded at Mitchell Field, Long Island, New York, in July 1919.
USS Agamemnon, aboard which the men of the 645th Aero Squadron (Supply) sailed from Hoboken, New Jersey to France. Read an account of her ocean crossings here.
Most of the members of the 645th Aero Squadron returned to the U.S. aboard the SS Patria, a ship that later met a disastrous fate. Read an account of the ship in a Wikipedia article here.
No, the 645th Aero Squadron (Supply) did not have a musical cadre, but these toy soldiers appear to be dressed in World War I era uniforms and perhaps serve as a memento of the Great War. Their individual photographs are here.
Research for this site has shown that, in death as in life, there is no equality among men. Some unit members are well documented in online family trees and have left behind copious historical records. Others have left scant trace of their passage through life, and their faces as well as their voices have vanished from memory. One of the sad pages on this site is that of Walter Kenney, who died in 1918, and whose memorial certificate, signed by President Woodrow Wilson, was found for sale on an online auction site. May this site help in some small way to perpetuate his memory and that of each of his brothers in arms. Readers with additional data or photos of these men are invited to submit them to wfuller44(at)gmail(dot)com.
