When using DSLR for the first time it is recommended to use automatic mode, but to have full creative control of the camera you need to learn to shoot manually. How?
Exposure compensation in manual mode is basically adjusting the exposure by setting values for ISO, Shutter speed and Aperture.
ISO - controls how sensitive the image sensor is to light. In day light use the minimum ISO possible. 5D Mark IV could produce less noise picture at ISO 3200.
Shutter speed - Is how long the shutter stays open. To avoid image blur in handheld shots use faster shutter speed.
Aperture - Aperture is a hole in the lens and controls the brightness of a picture. The lower the f -number the wider the lens opening and more light gets in on the other hand the higher the f -number, the narrower the lens opening and less light get in. It is an important element as it controls depth of field.
EOS 5D Mark IV comes with a new picture style which is Fine Detail. This feature helps to achieve detail in a picture.
If you are not afraid of the extra work at post, always shot in raw so that you do not have to worry about white balance, slight change in exposure, picture style, contrast, sharpness and color.
Image quality comes in RAW and JPEG
RAW is digital negative, a file which is not yet processed. Image shot in raw will look flat, but lets you have more control in post processing. To get full resolution of the image use RAW instead of MRAW or SRAW.
JPEG is a standard compressed image. It will speed up your work flow, but there is a risk of losing image as it will be hard to fix faulty image at post processing.
