Resources for Students:
Race & Justice

This class - which examines the juvenile justice system - cannot be separated from current events. It pertains to COVID-19 (i.e., it has significantly impacted all facets of the CJ system in which youths are involved: detention centers, prisons, jails probation, courts, policing, schools, etc.) and the Anti-Racism and Black Lives Matter Social Movement.

As such, the content of this course will be quite relevant to different aspects of these two current ongoing events/movements. It is impossible to separate them, and in fact it is important to instead engage head-on with these two matters. Many of you are criminal justice majors or minors, or are in the pre-law program, and as such are planning on a career within the criminal legal system, so it is imperative that you engage critically with what is happening in the world and how the content of this course can contextualize it. So be prepared to do so for your modules and/or assignments.

Below are some recommended videos, readings, and documentaries. It is important to keep an open mind and try to understand all sides of any issue. As with any issue, the best approach to reach a solution is educating yourself. We will discuss these issues in the context of juvenile justice issues throughout the class.
