History

50 years ago John Parker noticed that many residents of NDG who were retired, widowed, divorced or homemakers were feeling housebound with no place to socialize. He decided to find a solution.

Mr. Parker approached the municipal administration and proposed to start a club that would allow men and women to gather and make new friends and spend time doing things that were both enjoyable and different from their daily routines. The Fifty Plus club of NDG was born.

The municipality provided space and the supplied personnel to run the club and initiate various activities that would give the members a place for social and recreational activities in NDG.

The Club started out small with afternoon games day or light lunches of soup or sandwiches and maybe a lecture. There was also a men’s club which met once a week.

Since that time the Club has expanded to include day trips, exercise classes, restaurant lunches and so much more. The membership has grown, the borough of Côtes-des-Neiges/Notre-Dame-de-Grâce remains an important partner.

The 50 + Club of NDG offers its members the opportunity socialize. Our membership includes members who are over 90.

In the future we hope to implement more activities and give members even more ways to enjoy life and keep active.
