The next time you visit your favorite coffee bar, think of skipping the pumpkin-spice lattes, caramel macchiatos, and cold-brew iced coffees; and instead, try a soothing, steaming cup of tea. In addition to tea’s well-known power to soothe sore throats and even help prevent cancer and diabetes, it could actually help you drop off a few pounds. "Drinking tea may support weight loss or weight maintenance because it fills the void of beverages that are high in sugar and calories," says Josh Axe, D.N.M., founder of Ancient Nutrition. "When you switch out flavored lattes, coffee with added cream and sugar, and sugary sodas or juices, and replace them with tea, you are cutting a massive amount of calories a day." (We, do, love a salted caramel mocha, but a grande packs a whopping 420 calories compared with 0 cal. in a Wellness Tea!).
Here's an added bonus: In addition to its absence of calories (unsweetened tea is basically plant-flavored water), certain varieties contain compounds that give them an even bigger fat-burning boost. Listed are five best herbal teas that may help you lose weight and burn belly fat. Taste them! try them!
It's Good To Burn Calories Fast. Looking to drop a few pounds? Unfortunately, there's no magic pill that can miraculously help you burn calories and lose weight quickly. Shedding fat requires a careful combination of eating the right foods, exercise, reducing stress, and getting enough sleep. Green tea is something very close to a weight-loss elixir, a beverage that will help boost up your metabolism, regulate blood sugar, and blast away calories fast. Green tea is dried leaves harvested from the Camellia sinensis plant, which is also the source of other popular teas like black tea, white tea, and oolong tea.
The most potent catechin in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), the powerhouse compound that's responsible for most of green tea's weight loss properties. In addition to revving your metabolism and boosting the breakdown of fat, EGCG can also block the formation of new fat cells. One study found that men who drank green tea containing 136 milligrams of EGCG lost twice as much weight than a placebo group and four times as much belly fat over the course of three months. The amount of EGCG in green tea varies, but the average brewable tea contains 25-86 mg per serving. For more EGCG, opt for matcha green tea; the nutrient could be as much as 137 times greater in powdered matcha. There's a reason green tea is one of our best teas for burning calories, and eventually helps you to lose weight.
Burning calories is tricky, but there is one certain tea that could help boost your metabolism fast, and in turn you may shed some belly fat. Oolong tea is a Chinese tea that is grown under a hot sun. It is often described as being part way between green tea and black tea. Various studies have found that oolong can help those looking to burn calories, in order to lose weight and burn belly fat. One such study from Shenyang Pharmaceutical University in China look specifically on the “anti-obesity effects of oolong tea on diet-induced overweight or obesity.” One hundred and two subjects in the study drank 8 grams of oolong tea a day for six weeks. Amazingly, 70 per cent of subjects who were severely obese lost more than 1 kg in body weight and 22 per cent of these lost more than 3 kg. Twelve per cent of those in the study lost body fat. The scientists suggested the tea was increasing the rate at which fat was metabolized in the body.
Overall these studies have shown that oolong tea could help enhance weight loss, by improving the way you are burning calories and speeding up metabolism. Teas have a type of flavonoid called catechins that may boost metabolism and help your body break down fats more quickly. And the caffeine in many teas increases your energy use, causing your body to burn more calories. These two compounds probably work best together for any weight loss that may occur.
May help with burning calories. Rooibos is an herb grown in South Africa that can be brewed into a delicious, caffeine-free cup of tea. Animal studies have suggested that rooibos tea may help with burning calories, though more research is needed to confirm the effect on humans. Either way, it makes for a colorful and tasty addition to your tea caddy.
Boosts metabolism and helps to breakdown fat cells. White tea stands out among other types of tea because it is minimally processed and harvested while the tea plant is still young. It is then quickly dried, preventing them from oxidizing. This process gives the tea an exceptionally delicate flavor that is still packed with fat-busting polyphenols. White tea distinct flavor is very different from other types of tea. It tastes subtle, delicate and slightly sweet. "White tea is rich in antioxidants, boosts metabolism and helps to breakdown fat cells," says Dr. Axe. The benefits of white tea are well-studied, and range from improving oral health to killing cancer cells in some test-tube studies.
Can help with Slimming Down. Pu-erh is a black tea that comes from the Yunnan province of China; it's aged and fermented and can be purchased either pressed into cakes or as loose leaves. One study with overweight men suggested that drinking a daily cup of pu-erh tea can lead to some weight loss.
