Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Davontay’s passion for sports began at just five years old. In high school, he excelled in four sports while maintaining strong academics, earning MVP honors in the prestigious Florida vs. Georgia All-Star Game his senior year.
After high school, Davontay attended Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU), where he earned a degree in Sports Management with minors in Exercise Science and Coaching. While a student-athlete, he began training his college teammates and local high school athletes—planting the seeds for his future coaching career.
As a running back at SMSU, Davontay put together a stellar collegiate career. He was a three-time Team MVP, three-time All-Conference selection, Academic All-NSIC honoree, and in 2015 led the NSIC in rushing yards. That same year, he was named Team Captain, SMSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year, CoSIDA All-American, and helped lead SMSU to the best season in program history. He also received the program’s “True Mustang Award” for embodying excellence on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. Davontay still ranks third in school history for single-season rushing yards and is one of only six running backs in SMSU history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a season.
Following his playing career, Davontay served as the Running Backs Coach and Assistant Recruiting Coordinator at SMSU for three seasons.
With experience training athletes in football, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, baseball, softball, and soccer, Davontay is passionate about helping young athletes reach their full potential. He understands the importance of building relationships, creating opportunities, and providing mentorship—things he wishes he had more of growing up. His mission is to use his experience, knowledge, and expertise to develop not only better athletes, but better people.
