I learned many things at the shelter. I learned that people can adopt rabbits, cats, and dogs. I also learned that there is a front office where you can buy many items, such as toys and blankets, for your pets. Most of these items were actually made and donated by people. When animals come in, the people there determine what kind of personality the animals have, and whether they need training or not. Outside, there is a field where you can go and get to know a dog if you want to adopt it. For the cats and kittens, there is a special room inside the building to play with the cat to decide if you want to adopt it. I thought it was amazing to be able to see all of the animals at the shelter, and it was also really fun to learn new things!
At the Irvine Animal Care Center, I learned that the dogs had to be treated. First, the dog had to be checked for rabies or any other disease. Then the dog had to be observed in a cage for 7-10 days. Next, the dog would have to be either trained, or if the pet was too hard to train, to put him/her up for adoption. For cats, it is very similar. I really hope that next time, I can find out the exact process for cats when they reach the animal shelter.
