What is American Mahjong?

American Mahjong (or Mah-Jongg) is a popular four-player strategy game based on traditional Chinese mahjong, officially governed by the National Mah Jong League (NMJL). It is distinct for using 152 tiles (including 8 jokers), plastic racks to hold tiles, and a unique annual card that lists specific, required hand combinations.

Welcome to 405 Mahjong! I’m so glad you’re here. Oklahoma has been my home for over 40 years, and as a longtime local business owner, I am deeply proud of the community we’ve built together. My journey with Mahjong began when a friend introduced me to the game; it wasn’t long before I was completely hooked. What started as a personal passion—studying every rule and taking every class I could find—quickly turned into a desire to share that joy with others. I founded this club because I love the way Mahjong brings people together. Whether I’m teaching a beginner their very first tiles or navigating a complex play with seasoned experts, there is always something new to learn and a new friendship to be made. The obsession is real, but the community is even better! What began as a small group of social players has grown exponentially into the vibrant club, we now call 405 Mahjong. I’ve met the most incredible people through this game, and I can’t wait to welcome you to the table.

Focus on Home: Furnishing homes for disadvantaged families to help them find dignity and stability.
