STRAND
A strand in senior high school refers to a specific track or program that students can choose to pursue in their last two years of high school. The Department of Education (DepEd) has implemented a new curriculum for senior high school, which includes four main strands: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), ABM (Accountancy, Business, and Management), HUMSS (Humanities and Social Sciences), and TVL (Technical-Vocational-Livelihood.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
STEM strand focuses on advanced concepts and topics compared to other strands. In this track, students are expected to become a pilot, an architect, an astrophysicist, a biologist, a chemist, an engineer, a dentist, a nutritionist, a nurse, a doctor, and a lot more, even the marine engineers could take this track.
Accountancy, Business, and Management
The Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) strand will focus on the basic concepts of financial management, business management, corporate operations, and all things that are accounted for.
Humanities and Social Science
This strand focuses on studying societal issues and changes as well as human conditions. Students enrolled in this humanities and social science strand will have a better appreciation and knowledge of culture, society, politics, the arts, and literature, which are key components of HUMSS strand courses.
Technical - Vocational - Livelihood
Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) education focuses on hands-on training in specific fields. Unlike conventional education, which often emphasizes theoretical knowledge, TVL programs are designed to teach students the practical, job-ready skills that employers seek.
