Science
Stellar parameters and chemical abundances for over 20 chemical elements to provide new constraints across areas in astrophysics:
stellar structure, binary evolution and star-planet connection
nucleosynthesis, Galactic chemical evolution
formation of the disc and bulge
WHAT:

WHEN:
The main goal of the upcoming (start 2026) 4MIDABLE-HR Galactic survey of 3 million stars is to explore and constrain the structure, evolution, and chemical enrichment of the Milky Way and its main stellar populations, the disc and the central spheroid - the bulge.
Our large observational program capitalizes on the unique capabilities of the 4MOST high-resolution (R=20,000) spectrograph and will provide chemical abundances for all major nucleosynthesis channels, from Li and CNO, through α- , Fe-peak, to s- and r-process like Ba, Y, and Eu.
We will also provide precise detailed astrophysical parameters and multi-epoch radial velocities for over 1 millions of stars with time-domain information, x-Ray data, and asteroseismic data, ideally complementing Gaia, TESS, K2, eROSITA, and PLATO missions.
