I-17 I initially thought was going to be the part of the road trip to the Grand Canyon that would put me to sleep because we would be riding the entire length of it. Long story short I was right but I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would. Once you get to the outskirts of Phoenix, It starts getting a lot better. and I mean A LOT. We spent a lot of time listening to old 80's and 90's pop/rock on the way there so now whenever I think of "Eyes Without A Face" by Billy Joel, on the opening chord I cant help but imagine the scene above on the cover and what the outskirts looked like at sunset, in addition to feeling the same thing I did when I first saw it. And in a way it makes sense that that's the song I associate with the freeway because the song kinda has that cheesy "forbidden love" chiché sound to it, and I-17 happens to be the deadliest yet most beautiful highway in AZ. You cant let yourself be captivated by its illusion or you'll put yourself at risk of crashing, and no one will be there to help you. Go and drive on it before you decide wether you like it or not and make sure you get past the city portion. My pictures alone can't describe it and Arizona in all their beauty.
