Journalism Colloquium
Journalism Colloquium
Welcome to the official website of the Journalism Colloquium Publication, brought to you by the final year students of Journalism Programme, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)
This Journalism colloquium was held for three separate days on 13th, 15th and 18th December 2021. The event aims to bridge the gaps of knowledge pertaining to the journalism industry, not only amongst future and current journalists, but also within the public sphere.
The theme of this year’s colloquium is Transcendence in Journalism: Defining Journalistic Value in Content Creation.
Emergence of social media has created a sudden shift in the dynamics of journalism landscape. It is the age of digital and the social media is dominating the limelight to capture as many as ‘netizens’ to indulge and express their thoughts and ideas through social media. Besides it is also a popular and fast source for people to get news. In a way, it has transcended information gathering and also dissemination of news beyond boundaries. Interactive and 'reality' news forms, such as using 360° video and augmented reality have been shown to induce eudemonic experiences by allowing users to feel that they can determine their own futures and transcend boundaries.
Apart from that, in the era of digitalization, there is a disparity between journalists and content creators (citizen) that people call "blurred lines". This is due to the reason that there are concerns in regards to overloading information resulting in the spread of fake news. Content creator and citizen journalist offer audience new means to deal with and process the increasingly complex social reality.
