Why fix something that isn't broken?
Now you might be asking, "What's wrong with my toaster oven, I can use it just fine. Why do I need a new one?". The reason we decided to redesign the toaster oven is because we believe we can deliver a more simple and yet functional user interface.
We based our initial design off of a conventional oven as most people are familiar with how to use them. We also decided to keep one knob as provided the most functionality while still keeping the design simple to use.
Features of our new UI
2. Then user gets an option to select the state. In this case, the user selects "Low". The digital knob would show what the user has selected so far. There is also a 'back' option if the user would like to change the mode.
3. Then user would get prompt to select the time. Meanwhile digital knob will display the settings selected by the user so far. In this case Broil on Low heat.
4. Once the user confirms their selections, they will press the digital knob to start the oven. The screen indicates the user's selections and time remaining till it is cooked. Also, it will show progress bar so you can see the remaining time from a distance.
5. When the food is ready, the oven beeps and displays a ready message on digital knob to inform the user. The main screen shows the main option menu.
Here's what the full toaster oven would look like.
