Competition Information

The 3M Young Scientist Challenge is the nation’s premier science competition for grades 5-8. This past spring, students from all over the nation submitted their big ideas to help solve everyday problems and can improve lives around the world. Ten outstanding students were chosen as national finalists and have been working all summer, with the help of a 3M Scientist Mentor, to bring their innovative ideas to life.

To earn the title of the America’s Top Young Scientist, each finalist will compete in an intensive, interactive virtual competition during which they were evaluated on a series of challenges and on the presentation of their completed innovation. These young inventors won the top ten spots in this year’s challenge through their innovative thinking, scientific acumen, and display of exceptional communication skills.
