Human language does not exist in a vacuum — it is shaped by our surrounding world, intrinsically connected to our experiences; it also shapes many aspects of our lives, including ways we interact with human and non-human entities. Likewise, the study of language can extend beyond text and words, with theoretical and methodological approaches taking inspiration from psychology, cognitive science or computer science to name a few.
The focus of this student conference is on the intersection between linguistics, computer science, and cognitive science. We invite submissions from those fields, and especially encourage topics related to broadly understood multimodality, describing ongoing or finished student work.
We invite submissions from the fields of:
• Cognitive Linguistics
• Computational Linguistics / Natural Language Processing
• Cognitive Science
• Psycholinguistics
With a special focus on:
• Theoretical and practical approaches to multimodality
• Emerging topics and fields within linguistics
• Intersections between the aforementioned fields
Abstracts can be submitted to michal.szawerna@uwr.edu.pl in PDF format, with “3M2025 student conference submission” as the title. The header of the abstract should include the name(s) of the author(s), their affiliation, and contact details. The abstract itself should be max. 500 words long (excluding references) and is advised to contain a brief overview of the related research alongside the contribution. Any corrections should be made in the same e-mail thread. We reserve the right to reject submissions that do not comply with this format. The main author of the abstract must be a student (first-, second-, or third-cycle). We accept max. one submission per author.
All talks should be limited to 20 minutes (plus 10 minutes for discussion).
A possibility for a post-conference publication in the academic journal Anglica Wratislaviensia is under consideration.
