Hi

Tomorrow they are announcing 25 to 50mm of rain. A perfect day for recording it.

I will be using a TASCAM US-144 MKII USB audio interface and a pair of audiotechnica studio cardioid mics.

This will be my first attempt. So any tips that you can share will be most appreciated.

Last summer in Thailand I did a short video of a down poor from the first floor balcony of my guest house. The hard rain hitting the camera made the sound track useless. So I mixed four different rain tracks from the net at the end you can hear some of the real one. With all the neon lights, the choice of music was clear to me.

Five minute video: A Rainy Evening in Soi Chaiyapoon

You have to keep the van from acting like a tuned cavity. The large box version of singing into a wine glass. Alternately, you can find out where the resonance is and pull most of it out in post production.

Not sure what you are wanting to record rain. If it is to add to a project, you can save yourself a lot of time by downloading free of charge and royalty free samples of rain in the following link -sound-effect.html

Recording can be environment dependent. Last time it rained here was, I think, January. Recording lawn sprinkers works. We got a lot of those. Nobody wrote the sound has to be the exact thing you present in the show.

The challenge when trying to record the sound of rain, is in controlling what the rain hits. Obviously you need to protect your microphone from being rained on, but you need to shield it with something that does not make a distracting noise when rain hits it.

If you are recording, for example, the sound of rain in a forest, then sheltering the mic in the shade of a tree will probably be acceptable, but sheltering the mic under an umbrella would not sound good.

On the other hand, last time I tried recording surf in a public park, a couple walked up to me and struck up a conversation. After a while, the woman noticed I had a sound recorder and put it together I was trying to record the waves. I wonder if they also put it together I recorded their entire conversation.

It's been a while since I added a new rain sound to myNoise. Another one, you might wonder? Yes, indeed! Rain sounds are among the favorites on myNoise. They are great for blocking out other noises, helping you focus or sleep. The best part is, they do this without causing any disturbance. It's a sound that your brain can easily tune out. So, when the rain sound hides other noises, your brain makes everything seem quiet by ignoring both the rain and the hidden noise.

I'm introducing this new rain sound because I believe I can improve what myNoise already offers. This soundscape is largely based on recordings captured by Denis, a fan of myNoise from Quebec who loves camping outdoors. These recordings beautifully bring to life the sound of a forest during a rainy night, when you're sleeping in a tent. The best part? You can experience this without the discomfort of getting your socks wet, unlike Denis who braved the rain for these recordings. Thank you Denis!

My apologies for the delays. Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. To confirm, are you hearing a different track or rain sound when you ask the Google Assistant on your phone to play it? I tried it on my end and was able to hear and play the same track. For the duration, for Google Home/Nest speakers the relaxing sound will continue to play for 12 hrs. unless you ask it to stop. You can try to reboot your device first and see if that makes any difference, or try using the keywords: "Hey Google, play rain sounds for ."

Just to add, there might be a time that the Google Assistant on phone may play a different track because the Google Home/Nest speakers and Google Assistant on phone have different platforms and functionalities.

After successfully experimenting with nature sounds (a sample video is at the end of this article), I decided to create dynamic weather that could be changed simply by adjusting a simple parameter from the game engine. Once again, I began with an analysis before proceeding to recreate the sounds using synthesizers. Procedural dynamic rain is an excellent example, especially because a simple Wwise parameter can change the sound from light rain to pouring rain.

As I can't just recreate the sound of rain by watching its spectrum or waveform, I decided to scour the internet to research this topic. I found a meaningful paper from Cornell called "Toward Animating Water with Complex Acoustic Bubbles". It contains great work, and worth the read.

These were the main conclusions I drew from this research paper:

Through this, I realized that the sound of rain is comprised of the sound of millions of bubbles merging each second to form a spectrum resembling a noise-like sound (pink noise, to be more precise).Ā

Based on this idea, I created a prototype of dynamic rain in Ableton Live using Serum. I split the whole sound into a few layers:

1. Light high-frequency boiling

2. Mid-frequency boiling

3. Stereo noise

4. Individual raindropsĀ

To make it more realistic, I cross-referenced my prototype with a sample of recorded rain.

I had wanted to create not just the sound of rain but also a dynamic rain system that changed rain intensity depending on the parameter, which is the RTPC parameter called Rain_intensity, from the game engine. This parameter changes many of the settings for rain, filter settings, and the volume of the Low Boiling layer.

To make the sine wave change its pitch, I added an Envelope modulator to the Transpose parameter.Ā

The next step would be to randomize the trigger rate, pitch, volume, and pan. A Random Container would be a great solution for this.

This procedurally generated rain can become part of a larger dynamic weather system in your game. However, you'll probably need to make more nature sounds.

Here's a good example from one of my earlier experiments. It features pure, synthesized nature sounds for World of Tanks. Everything you'll hear from the video is synthesized: wind, birds, insects, etc. Such prototypes will help you build similar systems in Wwise.

I often notice rain sound on the windscreen eventhough there is no rain at all; clear skies f.e. How does these rain effects (visible, hearable) work together? Should i report it to LR? How do i report it to LR?

I have setup an input_text that takes the podcast URL.

I trigger the automation with a button.

The podcast is then streamed though a google home. I have a wait in my automation that waits for the speaker to go idle it then plays the rain sounds.

Those are GM General MIDI sound effects and not included in Logic's Instruments. The best way to get these sounds is to download and import a General MIDI Soundfont for Logic's EXS24 Sampler to use. Soundfonts use the .sf2 extension.

As I write this, a thunderstorm is rolling in. Through the window to the left of my desk, I can see that my usually bright green backyard has taken on a sunken gray hue to match the dark clouds above.

These days, even the sound of a heavy rainfall can trigger a high level of anxiety and, in some cases, pure panic. Last year when I worked in an office at an advertising company, my wee little cubicle was situated on the top floor.

On the right there , i also tried adding the fades on the " On component activated " and " On component deactivated " options , and the sound does play then , but it dont seem to fade out , just abrupt stop.

The reason I would do this, is that you can have dynamic rain by just changing the surface sound and attenuation / air absorption values on the cues based on the rain drop parameters niagara provides, as well as being able to play a different sound based on the surface type that gets hit. Metal, water, dirt, sand. Etc.

An uncoated sheet of aluminum on top of a barn or shed is noisier in the rain than metal roofing products used on homes and commercial properties. For example, stone-coated metal roofing products are peacefully quiet in the rain due to their intricate textures and the sound-absorbing cushion of stone granules.

A metal roof on a barn or shed lacks a complete roof assembly. The higher construction standards for residential and commercial properties require a roof deck, insulation and underlayment. This considerably dampens the sound of rainfall on the roof. With a complete roof assembly in place, the noise from rain on a metal roof is similar to any other roofing material. 152ee80cbc
