BeadTool 4 for Windows and Mac is a beading programme for both hobbyists and professional beaders. It allows the user to create all sorts of amazing beading patterns, all with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Update: If you love beading and if you want to create your own patterns, I think this software is worth the fee. The system is easy to use and it is possible to make money from selling patterns that you create on BeadTool (this is what I do currently), so you could make your money back if you want to.

I was wondering if you could change the bead layout? like..in many of the pictures shown the beads are staggered like crossstiching patterns but on my loom they are in straight rows. Would this software work for me?

Could any one help with a problem I am having when beading tubular peyote in Beadtool4. I create the pattern and it looks great, I make sure I click on the pattern and start bead. I am using the bead legend when beading and my pattern is on a slant, rather than straight up and down. Any suggestions of what I am doing wrong?

Hello! I think this is the way that tubular peyote patterns are. Usually, there are beads highlighted diagonally (in a bead chart) that show where the next row starts from. Take a look at this article for more info on how to read an even count tubular peyote pattern: -even-count-tubular-peyote-pattern-4105910

I have used bead tool for about 7 years maybe more, off and on and have used it to create some really large counted cross stitch patterns. I have never bothered to update the version i have and have not really asked the developer for help, except perhaps many years ago when i reinstalled the program on a new computer. I can not relate to those complaints but I can probably help individuals out if they have simpler non coding issues and installation issues. I dont know this person but have two programmer sons and i recognize the agony of learning this stuff as well as the agony of having to answer the same questions hundreds of times. LOL, i am kind of in the middle. When you do your video Hayley, maybe a lesson on how to make round patterns with different size beads (presumably a function of pixel ratio in the pattern set up? which i have not figured out.

There are all kinds of areas of inspiration for beading, so I have been trying to take a look at some themes for you. In this blog I am focusing on beading patterns for food. If you know my work, then you know my love of beading Sweet Treats (I wrote a whole book of beading patterns for cakes and desserts!). I have a confession to make: one thing led to another and I found more inspiration in savoury foods! So I want to share some of the beading patterns for food that I particularly love and hope they will inspire you too.

Historically beadwork patterns created by the Cherokee have had a wide variety of tribal meanings. Sadly, many of the old, traditional beading patterns have been lost due to time and the many changes the Cherokee tribe has faced. Modern beadworkers now design their styles and patterns infused with their own personal meanings and symbols. Many of the patterns are also inspired by and created to reflect Cherokee stories, beliefs, principles, and community values.

Designing Spiral Seed Bead PatternsSpiral Rope 102Beaders all over are creating their own spiral seed bead patterns. It is great fun to look at other people's work and admire their results, and then to imagine what new spiral seed bead patterns you can create yourself. Let's take a look at some of the factors you can play with as you do spiral ropes.

I recently saw a project in one of the bead magazines that included a length of spiral rope with size 15 beads. Not my thing, but if you want to fit hours of beading into a very small box then size 15 beads would be a good way to go!

Instead of a simple repeat of adding one core bead in Color A followed by three outside beads in color B, or 3 outside beads in colors B-C-B or B-C-D, you can have a number of combinations that you use for the outside beads. The necklaces shown here all have outside beads in the same bead type for each repeat (rocaille-cube-rocaille) but the spiral seed bead patterns vary the colors of the cubes, working through an assortment of related colors. Some of the patterns also vary the colors of the rocailles.

Using beads with holes near their edges, such as magatamas, lentils, or other drop-type beads in the outside bead sequence creates additional 3-D effects. You might want to experiment with spiral seed bead patterns that use a single drop or magatama in the center of the outside bead sequence to create a third level of elevation with their own spiral up the rope. Or you could try using lentil beads for all the outside beads, or alternate lentils and seed beads.
