Assuming you require no waivers and have no major medical history and meet all initial qualifications, it will take around 3-4 months to go to Basic Military Training (BMT) at Lackland AFB in San Antonio Texas.
To find out if you qualify, you will want to text your email address to either your closest recruiter from the home page. You will then be sent a questionnaire that we use to determine basic qualifications, what steps we need to take for you, the documentation required, and it will help narrow down what jobs you can be offered. We MUST verify eligibility BEFORE we discuss jobs. Our time is limited and this is needed to assist you.
The ASVAB is an important test as it will let us know if you qualify to serve, and what jobs you tentatively qualify for. If you have taken the test already, we will work to pull your scores (valid for 2 years). All others will take the ASVAB Practice Test (APT) from home prior to an appointment. If you score well you will proceed to the next step. If not, you will need to study and try again after 30 days.

The PiCAT is an important test as it will let us know if you qualify to serve, and what jobs you tentatively qualify for. If you have taken the test already, we will work to schedule your PiCAT verification test. All others will take the ASVAB Practice Test (APT) from home prior to an appointment. If you score well you will proceed to the next step. If not, you will need to study and try again after 30 days.
Appointments will be scheduled for those with an approved pre-qualification on file and passing ASVAB, APT, or PiCAT score. Walk-ins may be turned away, depending on how busy we are. Your first appointment is where we will get to know each other, review your qualifications for accuracy, complete eligibility paperwork and schedule the ASVAB. It is recommended you bring parents, your spouse, or anyone that will influence your decision so we can all be on the same page.
Part of your initial appointment we will cover professional conduct between you and your recruiter. When asked by your recruiter watch this video. ID2A
Make an account and let your recruiter know when complete so you can be connected to him or her in it. You'll find your Applicants Rights contact information under "Awaiting Training," "Getting Started," "Applicants Rights." This app serves as a Professional Development Guide to help prepare for Basic Training.
After successfully completing your initial appointment you will be required to submit an online application through Air Force Commissioning and Enlistment Portal (AFCEP). Your recruiter will initiate your request to create your account. You will need to use a laptop or desktop to access the website. When creating your account I encourage you to take a picture of your QR code. The AFCEP website is where you will start your background investigation and sign forms that are required before being able to submit any type of MEPS request. Please utilize the AFCEP Applicant User Guide.
An alternate way to fill out your background investigation please down load the following document. The PDF is fillable or you can print it out and fill it in.
Like any company, the Air Force is filling jobs it has openings for. First, you must get qualified to find out what you can do which includes your questionnaire, ASVAB, and MEPS trip. Our office handles jobs very simply. After the ASVAB you will get a print out of jobs that you qualify for, and jobs we are hiring for. You are required to create a list of 10 from your list and 5 of the jobs need to be from both lists. You are not allowed to list just a single job and wait. The PDF will show all of our jobs and what we're currently hiring for. Our job is to fill the needs of the Air Force. That being said, you do not have to list any job you don't want to do. We want you to enjoy your career and will go over a lot of details during this step to make sure you understand your options.
The Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) is where you get your medical and physical evaluations done. There is no fitness test, this is more like an advanced sports physical to ensure you are healthy and able to serve. This is scheduled after your appointment and ASVAB. The day before you process, you will come to the office to receive a full briefing on what to expect, review your paperwork, then take a shuttle to the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Jacksonville where you will spend the night. The shuttle, hotel, and food are all paid for by the Air Force. You will receive your official job list that you qualify for based off your ASVAB scores and physical and then swear in to the DEP.

After successfully completing MEPS you will be sworn in to the Delayed Entry Program (DEP). Once in this status you will be booked a job once one that you listed becomes available. We will meet every month for a DEP Commanders Call to ensure there are no major changes, cover Air Force benefits, and answer any questions you may have.

The final step if you got this far, stayed qualified, and you're ready to make the biggest and best step of your life, is to ship out to BMT and start your new career!
