Hell & The Lake of Fire
This is a Bible Study containing Scripture teachings concerning and concentrating on an issue that people are interested in.
Please note that there are various speculations, assumptions and imaginations in opinions and commentaries that teach about
Bible issues. These are avoided and not the purpose or technique of this report. Information extracted from outside of the Bible is
fallible, not reliable and not a source or method of interpretation. This report accumulates relative and significant Bible verses on
the issue for the reader to consider for your own understanding as you are led by the Lord Yeshua (His Hebrew name), His Words
and the Holy Spirit. We want the Bible to interpret itself, be your primary source of truth to establish what you believe - not the
beliefs of others or us. Words in blue were inserted by the writer of this report.
THE ENGLISH BIBLE WORD HELL:
Hell = English word for Sheol, Hades and Gehenna.
Sheol = Hebrew word for pit, grave and abode (dwelling) of the dead. Hell
Gehenna = Hebrew word for valley of Hinnom, final destination of the wicked. Hell
Hades = Greek word for unseen dwelling place of the dead. Hell
Abraham's Bosom or Paradise = Yeshua the Messiah names the place He descended to after the cross
WHERE IS HELL:
Eph 4:9-10
9 (Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who
descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)
Luke 16:22-23 (before the cross)
22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23
And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Luke 23:43 (after the cross)
43 And Jesus (Yeshua) said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
Luke 16:26
26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot,
nor can those from there pass to us.’
Hell separates two groups of people by a great gulf of which Abraham's Bosom (paradise) was holding God's people.
WHAT HELL IS LIKE:
Luke 16:24 (before the cross)
22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. 23
And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 “Then he cried and
said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I
am tormented in this flame.’
2 Cor 5:8 (after the cross)
6 So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. 7 For we walk by faith,
not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
WHAT IS THE LAKE OF FIRE: (the final place holding satan (devil), the fallen angels (demons) and all unbelievers)
Rev. 20:11-15 (after the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ, the millennium)
11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was
found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book
was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the
books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were
judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades (Hell) were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
WHAT THE LAKE OF FIRE IS LIKE (after the 1000 year reign, at the end of this world):
Matt 8:12
11 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of
heaven. 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping (mental torment) and gnashing
of teeth. (physical torment)”
Matt 13:37-43
37 He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, the good seeds are
the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. 39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is
the end of the age (1000 yr. reign), and the reapers are the angels. 40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire,
so it will be at the end of this age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things
that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing (grief, crying
and screaming) and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has
ears to hear, let him hear!
Matt 13:47-51
47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, 48 which, when it
was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. 49 So it will be at the
end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, 50 and cast them into the furnace of fire.
There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” 51 Jesus said to them, “Have you understood all these things?” They said to Him,
“Yes, Lord.”
Matt 22:11-14
11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. 12 So he said to
him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the
servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Matt 25:30
30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Matt 25:41 (at the end of the 1000 year reign, the end of the world and before the new world begins)
41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and
his angels:
Luke 10:15
15 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades.
Jude 1:13
wandering stars (unbelievers, lost) for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
