Q: How old does my child need to be to take this course?
A: Your child needs to be at least 14 and a half by the first date of the class.
Q: Can I take this course if I am over 18?
A: Yes, you are able to take this course if you are over 18, however you do not need it.
Q: How much do the services cost?
A: Our 30 hour in-class instruction with six hours of behind the wheel is $350
Our behind the wheel only is $250
Classroom instruction only is $175
Additional two hours of driving once permit has been obtained is $150
Q: Why do I need to pay a deposit?
A: A deposit is required to hold your spot in the classroom.
Q: What do I need to bring to class?
A: If you are taking our in-person course, we advise you to bring a notebook and pens/pencils to take notes during this class. While notes are not necessary for any course, it is important in success for drivers education, as the DMV tests may not always be easy, and notes help you better understand material.
A: A water bottle is also a good thing to bring to your in-person class because it is quite a long class to sit through, and staying hydrated can be essential to classroom focus.
Q: If I am 16, how long will I have to wait until I can get my license?
A: If you are at least 16 years old, you must hold the limited learner’s permit for 9 months from the issuance date before being eligible for a license.
Q: When does the driving portion take place?
A: If your child is scheduled for our $350 class, including instruction and behind the wheel, the driving portion will take place after the classroom portion has been completed, scheduling will be decided prior to this. If your child is only doing behind the wheel, Dennis will be in contact with you to schedule your driving portion once the registration form has been completed.
Q: I’ve successfully completed Driver’s Ed. Now how do I get my permit?
A: The driver's ed instructor will issue the completion certificate for the student's class. This certificate is valid proof that the student has completed the state requirements for their driver education in NC.
A parent/guardian must obtain a Driver Eligibility Certificate from the child's high school. This verifies that the student is meeting the standards of the adequate progress law. (This certificate expires within 30 days, so please make sure to get it a couple weeks before your DMV appointment).
You must bring a certified or original copy of birth certificate and Social Security Card to your DMV appointment.
The NCDMV cost to issue a learners permit is $25.50. (Although this is always subject to change due to the DMV).
Parent must sign the application for permit at the DMV.
Students must pass the NC DMV written test as well as successfully identify a group of road signs which is also your vision exam.
