Thank you for visiting the 2nd Annual Walk 4 Bradlee's about us page. I hope that you find our story, and Bradlee's journey inspirational. Bradlee Diane Green was born on December 15, 2020, and was the missing piece to making our family complete. The first year with Bradlee was amazing, and filled with so much joy and happiness. The bright red hair, crystal blue eyes and friendly smile made it impossible to run errands without someone stopping us about how cute and gorgeous Bradlee was. No one would have ever thought there was anything wrong with Bradlee until her 18 month check up showed that Bradlee had not grown since her 1 year check up. We dove right into finding out what could be the reasoning behind the delays we were seeing.
After seeing specialist after specialist, Bradlee's genetic team were able to give us the answers we were looking for. February 2023 we received a call from the genetic team that Bradlee had a gene mutation called Surf-1. Surf-1 led Bradlee to have a mitochondrial disorder known as Leigh Syndrome. Leigh Syndrome is a serious neurological disorder that often affects the development of mobility, posture, and mental capacities in children, with these capabilities occasionally being lost after a period of seemingly normal growth. Leigh Syndrome has no cure, and is known to have a short life expectancy. Unfortunately, Bradlee lost her fight to Leigh Syndrome on June 20, 2023.
We found ourselves extremely busy not only trying to juggle everyday life, but searching for answers for Bradlee. Once we got her diagnosis we knew time was against us. We pushed up events like family pictures and a trip to Disneyland. We are so blessed to be able to have those memories with her, and that is what the 4 Bradlee Walks are about. We want families and friends to put their busy schedules on pause for just a day. A day to take a break from sports, grocery shopping, cleaning or whatever you have going on and save the day to create memories with friends and family. The 4 Bradlee Walks also help us raise money that will go to charities like the Live Like JoJo foundation, or CureMito.
