LISER

LISER is an independent institute for social and economic research addressing policy relevant issues based on state-of-the-art scientific methodology.

The institute is committed to become a key player for evidence based policy advice both on the national and the European level. Therefore, the institute is engaged in developing tools for quantitative and qualitative policy analysis serving for causal ex-post evaluation as well as for model based ex-ante impact assessment of policy interventions.

One of the strong assets of the institute consists of its interdisciplinarity. The Institute employs about 140 people, of whom 80 are researchers and PhD candidates. The research team is representing a high degree of interdisciplinarity and includes demographers, economists, geographers, legal experts, political scientists, psychologists, social scientists, and statisticians. This provides a unique potential for stimulating and innovative research by systematically encouraging a constructive dialogue across different paradigms.

Departments

The research activities of the Institute are carried out by three research departments labelled "Labor Market", "Living Conditions", and "Urban Development and Mobility". In addition, the survey and data center team is in charge of data collection through face-to-face and online surveys, research in survey methodology and survey statistics, as well as creation and management of databases in social sciences.
