Welcome to 2nd Dukinfield Scout Group, a cornerstone of the Dukinfield community and a place where young people find fun, friendship, and adventure. For decades, we have been providing skills for life to boys and girls from across the local area.
Our mission is simple: to help young people achieve their full potential. We do this by offering a balanced programme of activities and challenges, guided by the core values of Scouting—integrity, respect, care, and cooperation.
Our Home
Our base of operations and the heart of our group is our Scout Hut, located at The Old Chapel Church. This is where we hold our weekly meetings and from where we launch our many adventures into the local area and beyond.
What We Do
At 2nd Dukinfield, we believe in learning by doing. Our programme is packed with activities that are as fun as they are developmental. One week, a Beaver might be learning about nature on a local trail; the next, a Cub could be mastering knots and building a den. Our Scouts take on even bigger challenges, from planning and leading their own camps to taking part in community impact projects.
From the first night away from home to expeditions in the Peak District, we provide the challenge, support, and encouragement for every young person to be their best self.
Meet the Team
Our group is run entirely by a team of amazing, dedicated, and trained volunteers. We are parents, community members, and outdoor enthusiasts who are passionate about giving young people incredible opportunities.
Rachel Challenger - Group Scout Leader / Trustee "As the Group Scout Leader, I help make sure everything runs smoothly. My favourite part of Scouting is watching the journey—seeing a shy six-year-old Beaver grow into a confident Scout who can stand on their own two feet. It's what makes volunteering so worthwhile."
James Garrigan - Cub Scout Leader "I've been involved in Scouting for some time now. For me, the best moment is seeing the look on a Cub's face when they master a new skill they thought was impossible, whether it's lighting their first fire or leading a game for their friends."
Zoe Howarth-Lowe Beaver Scout Leader "My favourite part of leading Beavers is seeing them experience so many 'firsts' – their first campfire song, their first night away from home, or the huge smile when they earn their first badge. Their energy is infectious, and it's amazing to be part of the very start of their Scouting adventure."
Thomas Lowe Scout Leader "Leading Scouts is all about stepping back and empowering them to take the lead. My favourite moments are on camp, watching a Patrol work together to cook their own meal on an open fire or navigate successfully across the hills. It’s where they stop being told what to do and start discovering what they're capable of."
Our Commitment to Safety
The safety and wellbeing of your child is our number one priority. Every single adult volunteer in our group is subject to a mandatory DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. On top of this, all leaders complete comprehensive training covering everything from First Aid and Safeguarding to running high-quality, risk-assessed activities. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for everyone.
