The 2nd Malaysian VLBI Workshop

5th to 8th September 2022

Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur

GOOD NEWS, NOW WE OFFER A HYBRID MODE!

After the successful first Malaysian VLBI Workshop held in Kuala Lumpur in November 2019, a second meeting on the advances of the VLBI situation in the country after three years will be held in 2022. Malaysia has moved forward in the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO) and Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) for the acquisition and operation of a VGOS radio telescope which will be expected to start its construction in Jelebu in the near future. Malaysia is moving towards its readiness by finalizing VLBI tests with the UPSI pathfinder antenna, and expanding the scientific topics and collaboration with other (south) east asian regions. For this second Malaysian VLBI Workshop, we aim to motivate and construct a pathroad toward the successful development of the VGOS antenna in Malaysia. We expect to discuss new and stimulating results and progress reports both on scientific research and in VGOS civil works, site construction and assembly. For this, we hope to cover not only VLBI science topics, but also include discussion based on RFI, geodesy applications, and single dish radio astronomy. The workshop will be hosted by the Radio Cosmology Research Laboratory of the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science of Universiti Malaya (UM). It is hoped that the workshop will happen on a face to face basis and talks will take place in the UM campus. However, depending on the worldwide Covid-19 situation and evolution, this may be changed to an online or hybrid workshop. In order to facilitate participation, one session will be performed in hybrid mode for these who cannot attend. Together with the workshop, a hands-off session for a practical demonstration of VLBI data reduction (AIPS and Difmap) will be held on the first day.
