En esta segunda edición del Congreso Internacional de Biodiversidad, queremos brindar un espacio de socialización y reflexión sobre el papel que tienen las ciudades ante la crisis ambiental global. Las ciudades son los asentamientos humanos de mayor demanda de recursos naturales y energéticos y a su vez de mayor salida de desechos y contaminación, hacia la naturaleza. Sin embargo, también son escenarios de construcción colectiva de propuestas y acciones que contribuyen a hacerlas más sustentables, estableciendo una relación más positiva con la naturaleza.
Según el último informe de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de las Naciones Unidas publicado en 2023, desde 2007, más de la mitad de la población mundial vive en las ciudades, estimando que dicha cantidad se duplique para 2030. Actualmente se estima que alrededor del 70 % de las emisiones de carbono mundiales provienen de ellas. Esta expansión urbana ha tenido repercusiones sobre la diversidad biológica, los ciclos biogeoquímicos, el clima y los ecosistemas. La tendencia de los próximos años es a la profundización de esta crisis, lo cual tendrá efecto sobre la vida en las ciudades, especialmente en lo que respecta al acceso a los servicios como el agua, la energía, los alimentos, entre otros. La resiliencia y equilibrio de los ecosistemas se ven cada vez más afectados por las actividades humanas promovidas desde las ciudades, lo cual hace imperativo realizar cambios en nuestros modos de vivir urbanos.
Entre los fundamentos promovidos por la ONU para la transformación de las ciudades, destacan la implementación de políticas y prácticas de desarrollo urbano justos, equitativos y sustentables que prioricen el acceso a servicios básicos, viviendas asequibles, transporte eficiente y espacios verdes para todos.
Esperamos que, en este, el 2do Congreso Internacional de Biodiversidad, podamos compartir los diversos aportes que desde diferentes sectores se están realizando para hacer de las ciudades espacios más armónicos y que promuevan la conservación de la biodiversidad.
Además, es de gran interés desde el comité organizador fortalecer las relaciones entre los diversos actores de la sociedad de cara a la crisis ambiental que nuestro planeta vive.
Queremos resaltar que, si bien este evento promueve esta temática, todos son bienvenidos a registrar sus trabajos en las diversas áreas de investigación, gestión, aprovechamiento y acción en pro de la conservación de la biodiversidad.
EL COMITÉ ORGANIZADOR
In this second edition of the International Biodiversity Congress, we want to provide a space for socialization and reflection on the role that cities have in the face of the global environmental crisis. Cities are the human settlements with the greatest demand for natural and energy resources and, at the same time, with the greatest release of waste and pollution into nature. However, they are also scenarios for the collective construction of proposals and actions that contribute to making them more sustainable, establishing a more positive relationship with nature.
According to the latest United Nations Sustainable Development Goals report published in 2023, since 2007, more than half of the world's population lives in cities, with estimates that this number will double by 2030. Currently it is estimated that around 70 % of global carbon emissions come from them. This urban expansion has had repercussions on biological diversity, biogeochemical cycles, climate and ecosystems. The trend in the coming years is for this crisis to deepen, which will have an effect on life in cities, especially with regard to access to services such as water, energy, food, among others. The resilience and balance of ecosystems are increasingly affected by human activities promoted from cities, which makes it imperative to make changes in our urban ways of living.
Among the foundations promoted by the UN for the transformation of cities, the implementation of fair, equitable and sustainable urban development policies and practices that prioritize access to basic services, affordable housing, efficient transportation and green spaces for all stand out.
We hope that, in this, the 2nd International Biodiversity Congress, we can share the various contributions that are being made from different sectors to make cities more harmonious spaces that promote the conservation of biodiversity.
Furthermore, it is of great interest from the organizing committee to strengthen relationships between the various actors in society in the face of the environmental crisis that our planet is experiencing.
We want to highlight that, although this event promotes this theme, everyone is welcome to register their work in the various areas of research, management, use and action in favor of biodiversity conservation.
