It's no secret that the center and right-wing of ModelUSGov has been ineffective, even when we have controlled the presidency. The reason for this is a lack of desire to actually reform or repeal previous legislation passed by the far left of the sim. I hope to avoid this by outlining specific policy plans and areas to reform in my manifesto, instead of giving in to vague platitudes and empty promises that simply aren't possible given the current political leanings of the sim.
With the future of America in our hands, we need to make sure that we choose a president who is experienced in getting things done in government. While a representative in the Great Lakes Assembly, I whipped every single bill proposed during my tenure to be aligned with my personal vote, including three of my own bills. As Governor of Great Lakes, I have worked with the assembly to pass numerous bills, and have issued a plethora of EOs to improve the lives of the citizens of Great Lakes. As president, I would hope to continue this trend by working with congress to improve the lives of American citizens and of people around the globe.

The current state of healthcare in ModelUSGov is the product of a compromise between the Democrats and Socialists, which is known as AutarchCare after then-speaker Autarch_Severian. Since then, Autarch proposed various reforms to AutarchCare in order to liberalize our healthcare markets, which unfortunately failed. In my opinion, these reforms are well needed and would be the number-one goal of my presidency if elected.
I support the Multi-Partisan Infrastructure Reform Act because unlike previous attempts at infrastructure reform it is a well-written and comprehensive piece of legislation. Other attempts at infrastructure reform have gone unfunded due to being poorly written, which is a shame because our country's is in desperate need of assistance. As president, I would push for this act to be fully funded in the 2018 budget.
Historically, budgets in ModelUSGov have gutted funding for our military in order to balance the budget while maintaining social programs and keeping taxes low. This horrific imbalance must end. Military spending isn't just defense spending—it's a public good. Military spending creates innumerable jobs in America, is instrumental in aiding in humanitarian crises worldwide, facilitates groundbreaking research in technology and science, and strengthens US hegemonic power, which helps boost our economy through trade and world stability. As president, I would do everything in my power to increase funding for the military.
Rather than being a rabid hawk or vehemently anti-war, I prefer a nuanced approach to foreign policy. Maintaining peace should definitely remain a priority, but I am not opposed to using our military to ensure world stability and to protect human rights world wide. Before going into an armed conflict, we should make sure all diplomatic option have be exhausted first. I am open to deploying small amounts of troops to help during small conflicts, not just full-on wars. In addition to this, I believe that the resolution to recognize Palestine should be fully repealed.
While I am a fan of the current budget proposal by Sen. realnyebevan, I also think we could do better. There simply hasn't been enough contention over this budget. I am in favor of using a VAT tax as proposed in the budget that Autarch created as Secretary of Treasury, instead of the income tax system that we currently have. In addition to this I support increasing military spending. Outside of the budget, I support indexing the federal minimum wage to a half of the median wage in the poorest state of the US. This is a fair multi-partisan solution to our constant bickering over the minimum wage. I also support reforming worker's unions by moving towards the system of co-determination used by Germany.
I believe in the freedom of all citizens to make choices for themselves. People should have the liberty to do what they want with their lives, which is why I support the the rights of LGBT+ individuals as well as the right of people to consume most drugs recreationally. While I do have sympathies for victims of mass shootings, I believe the incidences are exactly that: incidental. The government should still support our constitutional right to bear arms. In addition to this, I support repealing some aspects of the Obama-era campus guidelines for sexual assault because they stack the table against the accused. It is pertinent that universities do not violate the right to due process.
While to price of college is definitely a problem, the College Affordability Act is a horrid, partisan solution to this problem, which is why I support repealing and replacing it. There is tons of ground for compromise on education policy, and I will work with congress to come to an agreement on how to solve this issue in a reasonable fashion, instead of such heavy-handed nonsense.
