The workshop will take place at the hut Schronisko Szrenica. The only ways to get to the hut are by taking two ski lifts Szrenica I and Szrenica II from Szrenica Ski Arena, dolna stacja kolej linowej (+ a short hike) or just hiking (for more info see below). See here for the operation status of the lifts. The last ski lift to the top will be around 3:30, so it is imperative that you are at the bottom of the ski lift at around 3 p.m. if you are planning to take the lift.
If the weather is clear, you will see the hut immediately about 400m uphill ahead of you. If it is foggy (which it often is), the way to the hut is marked with poles. Follow the poles from the exit of the ski lift straight uphill.
The ski lift (Szrenica Ski Arena, dolna stacja kolej linowej) is a 32 minutes walk, according to google, in practice somewhat longer, from the train station Sklarska Poręba Górna, or a 9 minute taxi drive. If you are coming from the direction of Germany, there are two suitable connections, one through Liberec and one through Jelenia Gora. Here is an example of connections from Berlin:
6:23 Berlin Hbf 12:17 Sklarska Poręba Górna (over Cottbus, Görlitz, Jelenia Gora)
7:11 Berlin Hbf 14:22 Sklarska Poręba Górna (over Dresden-Neustadt, Liberec)
8:23 Berlin Hbf 14:10 Sklarska Poręba Górna (over Cottbus, Görlitz, Jelenia Gora)
(check connections at https://www.bahn.de/)
Please keep in mind that the change time in Cottbus is very short and knowing how unreliable Deutsche Bahn has been recently, the connection over Cottbus is quite risky. If you want to avoid the risk, especially if you are coming from farther away than Berlin, you can come to Szklarska Poręba on Thursday, February 20 and stay one night in the valley (and perhaps enjoy half a day of skiing before the workshop on Friday!). Please make your own arrangements for accommodation for that one night if you choose this approach.
There is a direct FLIX bus from the Florenc bus station at 7:35 that arrives in Szklarska Poręba Górna at 10:07. Another tried route is to take a bus from the Černý Most bus station to Liberec or Jablonec nad Nisou (and walk up to the train station Jablonec). Then take the train to Kořenov and change trains for Szklarska Poręba Górna. You can check connections and buy tickets in advance at https://idos.cz/.
Dresden: Via Liberec or Jelenia Gora, see connections from Berlin. The train journey takes about 4-5 hours.
Wroclaw: There are around six trains per day from Wroclaw main station to Szklarska Poręba Gorna station. The train journey takes 3-3.5 hours.
Arrival by plane is possible via Berlin, Dresden, Warsaw, Wroclaw and Prague.
Szklarska Poręba can be reached from Jelenia Góra (Poland) or Harrachov (Czech Republic). If you are planning to drive to Szklarska Poręba, please also let us know. Maybe you could give a lift to another participant.
In the past we used to organise a shuttle bus from Berlin straight to the Szklarska Poręba ski lift. However, it has recently become more and more expensive, and is now definitely more expensive than the train. Therefore we decided to discontinue this offer. But if some of you are still interested in sharing a taxi from Berlin or from some place along the way (e.g. Cottbus, Görlitz or Jelenia Gora), please let us know, we'll put you in contact with each other.
An alternative to taking the ski lift is to walk all the way to the top of mountain Szrenica either from the Czech side (Harrachov) or the Polish side (Szklarska Poręba via the Kamiensczyk Wodospad). You should only attempt this if you are in good physical condition and have hiking boots and only if the weather is good (in any case do not walk alone unless you are experienced).
From the Czech side: Take the minibus from the Harrachov railway station to the very east side of Harrachov, it is about 5 km, and walk up from there to the hut in about 3.5 hours, past the Czech hut Vosecka Bouda, from there about half an hour.
From the Polish side: From the station Szklarska Poreba Huta or Szklarska Poręba Górna via the Kamiensczyk Wodospad and the Hala Szrenicka hut. Google gives about 2 hours for either of these (6 km), but that is optimistic, probably more like 3 hours. You can also take a taxi from Szklarska Poręba Górna to as close to the Kamiensczyk Wodospad as you can get, and walk from there.
