2409 Washington Road has a widely varied history in Sunnyland.
The building was constructed in 1954, and the earliest business at 2409 was a gas station. In the late 1960s, the station was known as Evan's Friendly Service, a Mobil station.
By the early 1970s, it had become Helton Oil, Gary's Service Center, and Bob's Garage. By 1975, the property's days as a service station were over.
In 1976, Bob Schierer opened his fifteenth Schierer's Dairy location at 2409 Washington Road. Washington already had a Schierer's Dairy at 104 N. High Street, which opened in 1965.
Sunnyland Schierer's Dairy lasted until 1980-81, when it closed like several other Sunnyland businesses, possibly due to the economy and Caterpillar troubles. Hank and Paul Geers stepped in and opened Manny's Restaurant, which survived for three years until 1984.
In 1986, Chuck Sieg opened a short-lived teen hangout joint called Chas' Runway. It was strictly for 14 to 21-year-olds and offered dancing, a DJ, a snack bar, and an arcade room.
In early 1988, Video Movies Inc. moved from Sunnyland Plaza to 2409. Family Video took over in 1990 and remained until 1995. A Pop's Pizza franchise was run from the property sometime during the Family Video tenure.
After Family Video moved to a new location in Sunnyland, a revolving door began at 2409 Washington Road...
