We recognize that approved materials may occasionally be challenged or questioned, despite the care taken in selecting them; therefore, a procedure for submitting and responding to challenges has been established and shall be followed. Challenged material will remain accessible to library patrons during the reconsideration process.
A materials challenge occurs when someone asks for specific material, such as a book, to be removed from our library. The material then becomes "challenged material."
A reconsideration process occurs when the library reconsiders its choice to include the "challenged material" for use in the library.
STEPS IN THE RECONSIDERATION PROCESS
Contact the Junior High librarian: Ms. Ellen Burtschi.
Email: burtschie@mtzschools.org 217-864-2369
If the situation cannot be not resolved through discussion with Ms. Ellen Burtschi, please follow these steps:
Read the challenged material in its entirety.
Research reviews of the challenged material.
Consider a replacement book.
Complete the reconsideration form.
Submit the information to Ms. Ellen Burtschi directly, to the Junior High office, or through email or mail. The information will then be forwarded to the appropriate administrators for discussion and review, which will include the Junior High librarian.
