The Transportation Career Academy Program (TCAP) began as a “school within a school” in cooperation with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. For the past 29 years, TCAP has grown to include several other school districts in Los Angeles County.
TCAP provides a summer internship opportunity to students who are currently members of the graduating classes of 2026 and 2027. Metro targets students who are transit-dependent, reside in Los Angeles County, and live or attend school near a Metro rail station (including rail expansion projects).
TCAP offers students an opportunity to learn about careers in transportation and participate in real-world projects at one of the nation’s largest public transportation agencies. The program provides a professional mentorship relationship for interns and their mentors and an innovative approach to promote public transportation, anti-graffiti, and safety education programs.
The session runs for seven weeks. TCAP participants will meet in person starting Friday, June 18, 2026, and will present their final Project Team presentations on Friday, July 31, 2026. These sessions will be explained in detail during the first in-service training session on Friday, June 18, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
