Eisuke Abe is an experimentalist and a unit leader at RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing, where his research focus is on developing the hardware for superconducting quantum computing systems. In the past, he has worked on various solid-state qubit platforms such as phosphorus donors in silicon, electrostaticallzy-defined quantum dots, optically-controlled self-assembled quantum dots, and nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond. He received his doctoral degree from Keio University in 2006, and worked at University of Tokyo, Oxford University, Stanford University and other places.
Tomoko Inose is a Unit Leader at the RIKEN Center for Advanced Photonics and an Associate Professor at Kyoto University. She received her PhD in Chemistry from the Fuaculty of Science, Osaka University in 2015. Afterwards, she worked in Prof. Uji-i group in Hokkaido University in 2015-2020 and Prof. Furukawa group in Kyoto University in 2020-2023 as an assistant professor. From 2023-2025 she was a Program-Specific Associate Professor at the Hakubi Center at Kyoto University. Her research focuses on photochemistry, plasmonics, nanophotonics, and functional nanomaterials. In particular, she develops plasmonic nanowire-based technologies for single live-cell manipulation.
Erika Kawakami received her Ph.D. from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and was a postdoctoral researcher at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) in Japan before starting her research group at RIKEN. Her research focuses on quantum information processing using electrons on helium and solid neon.
Watson Kuo is a Professor in the Department of Physics and the Institute of Nanoscience at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), Taiwan, where he directs the Quantum Device Laboratory (QDL). His research specializes in superconducting quantum computing hardware, low-temperature physics, circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED), and nano-electronics. A leading figure in Taiwan's quantum technology initiatives, Prof. Kuo notably led the research team that achieved Taiwan's first successful quantum gating experiment on a domestically fabricated superconducting qubit.
Dr. Yei-Chen Lai is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from National Tsing Hua University under the supervision of Prof. Yun-Wei Chiang and conducted postdoctoral research at UCLA and UCSB with Prof. Irene A. Chen. His research focuses on RNA biophysics, spin-label electron spin resonance spectroscopy, and in vitro molecular evolution. He is particularly interested in the origin of life and the physical chemistry of protocell systems, including RNA dynamics and ribozyme encapsulation in coacervates and vesicles. His work aims to advance molecular-level understanding of RNA behavior in prebiotically relevant environments.
Dr. Neill Lambert is a theoretical physicist working on the topic of open quantum systems, the theory of how small quantum systems behave when put in contact with large noisy environments. This field is important for both fundamental physics, like how the classical world arises from the quantum one, but also for quantum technologies, where managing such noise is vital. He is a senior research scientist in RIKEN, and an admin and developer for the popular Quantum Toolbox in Python package (QuTiP).
Tsung-Han Liu is interested in interactions among biomolecules and conformational changes of molecules. He received his PhD degree from Department of Applied Chemistry and Institute of Molecular Science, National Chiao Tung University in 2017. He studied novel light-matter interactions induced by femtosecond laser and applications to biomolecules such as laser-induced protein crystallization and amyloid fibrillation. After his graduation, he started to combine spectroscopic techniques to biomolecular systems. In 2018, he was promoted to Graduate School of Science and Technology, Kwansei Gakuin University, as an assistant professor. In 2022, he shifted to Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo, as an assistant professor. He is currently an assistant professor in Department of Physics and Institute of NanoScience, National Chung Hsing University.
Dr. I-Chung Lu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), Taiwan. He received his B.S. and Ph.D. in chemistry from National Tsing Hua University and carried out postdoctoral research at the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences (IAMS), Academia Sinica, and at Wayne State University. His research bridges fundamental physical chemistry with analytical applications centered on mass spectrometry. Building on his mechanistic studies of ionization techniques, his group now couples mass spectrometric analysis with AI-based classification models to develop rapid diagnostic and screening tools. In parallel, his group develops customized MS inlet systems for detecting reactive intermediates, revealing the kinetics and mechanisms of transition-metal-catalyzed reactions and electrochemical water oxidation. His work demonstrates how advanced analytical science serves as an enabling technology assisting chemical discovery.
Tomoya Okino is a researcher at Trapped-Ion Quantum Computer Team in RIKEN specializing in quantum chemistry, strong-field laser science, attosecond science and quantum computing based on trapped-ion. He earned his PhD from the University of Tokyo in 2009. Prior to joining RIKEN as a researcher in 2014, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo from 2006 to 2013. His research focuses on advancing experimental approaches to light–matter interactions and quantum technologies.
Shuntaro Tani is a physicist and research team leader at the RIKEN Center for Advanced Photonics (RAP), where he heads the Digital Twin for Light-Matter Interaction RIKEN ECL Research Team. His research centers on ultrafast laser physics, precision laser processing, and light-matter interactions, with a focus on integrating deep learning and automated experiments to construct digital twin models for complex light-driven processes. Prior to joining RIKEN, he conducted extensive research on ultrafast spectroscopy, femtosecond laser ablation, and mid-infrared spectroscopy at the Institute for Solid State Physics (ISSP) at the University of Tokyo and Kyoto University.
