Thank you!
On behalf of all staff at Timber Wolf Lake, thank you for your commitment to serve this summer! Your service is an integral part of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ to campers. We pray that God will bring you to this assignment with a deep sense of calling and a servant's attitude. We incorporate medical professionals in the medical program at Timber Wolf to add an additional degree of professionalism to the medical services provided for campers and guests.
In addition to the medical service provided, the medical professional and family are encouraged to participate in the Adult Guest program. This program is designed to give adults a closer look at the ministry of Young Life by allowing them to view an participate in the camping experience. All camp fees are waived for medical professionals and family residing at Young Life camps for the week.
We ask that you carefully read ALL THIS INFORMATION as it contains details that will prepare you for the session. There are also several paperwork items that must be completed in a timely manner.
All adult volunteers serving at a Young Life camp must complete an online screening process prior to arrival at camp. If you are currently serving as a volunteer in your local area, you should have already completed the screening process. If you have not completed this process, you will receive an email from Young Life Human Resources with instructions for completing the online Faith & Conduct and Criminal Background screenings. Please complete these screenings within 14 days of receiving the email. Due to the nature of Young Life camping and working with minors, it is Young Life's policy that all volunteer have clear criminal background checks. All information that is submitted will be kept confidential.
All guests on camp are required to complete a Health & Consent form. A link was provided in your initial acceptance email to register yourself and your family members attending with you, this information is needed to create a Health Form for each individual guest. Please submit that information at your earliest convenience. Two weeks prior to your arrival, you will receive an email for each person attending with a unique link to their Health Form, please complete this form BEFORE arriving to camp.
The medical team includes two all-summer medical interns (Micah & Lindsey) who qualify as EMTs and a weekly medical professional who qualify as MD, DO, PA, NP, or RN when available. The primary function of the medical professional is screening. They will collaborate with the interns to decide the course of action in emergencies, decide which patients need transfer to a local medical facility, and dispense daily medications to campers.
Upon arrival to Timber Wolf Lake, the medical professional will meet the Medical interns. The interns will orient the medical professional to Timber Wolf's infirmary, emergency policies and procedures, and radio usage. We ask that medical professional attend the first Leaders Meeting for an introduction to the leaders for the week. The medical professional may also attend subsequent meetings if they prefer.
The Medical interns will handle the bulk of medical issues, including all illnesses and injuries that do not require the medical professional's examination. The medical professional will serve as a resource to them and will help cover the interns' day off (last days of the camp week).
The set infirmary hours are 30 minutes before and after each meal, and 30 minutes after the final cabin bell of the day. We ask that the interns, as well as the medical professional, be present at each of these times. The medical professional should notify the office when planning to be away from main camp or in a hard-to-reach spot. We ask that the medical professional be present at every all-camp event. Please review this Example Schedule to see what you could expect from a camp week (infirmary hours and events highlighted in red).
The camp medical professional will be asked to screen accidents and illnesses and recommend the nature of further professional treatment for campers. Due to the unpredictability of acute emergencies, we ask the medical professional to spend his or her week on the premises. You will be given a brief orientation to our infirmary and procedures when you arrive.
