Organised by the European Civil Society Platform for Multilingualism (ECSPM), the 2026 Symposium is hosted by the Language Council of Saarland (Sprachenrat Saar / Conseil linguistique de la Sarre), in collaboration with the Saarland University of Applied Sciences (htw saar), which is committed to promoting linguistic diversity, inclusive multilingual education and equitable internationalisation in higher education. It is also supported by the SFT (Internationale Saarbrücker Fremdsprachentagungen / Saarbrücken International Conferences on Foreign Language Teaching).
The symposium, which starts on Wednesday 18 March with a preconference dinner, is to be held on Thursday and Friday 19-20 March, in Saarbrücken, Germany. Participation is open, free-of-charge, to ECSPM members, and to affiliates of the host and the supporting institutions. Interested parties may attend in person or online, provided they register for the event. Registration will be announced at least one month in advance.
During the two-day event, invited speakers from Europe and beyond will deal with the two topics of the symposium theme to be discussed with the participants. The first is the internationalisation in higher education (HE), understood not as a threat but as a gateway to new possibilities for universities which are facing serious challenges and the second topic has to do with translation of academic knowledge, given that the internationalisation of universities is deeply intertwined with it. The translation of academic texts is essential for inclusive learning in HE, implementing institutional internationalisation policies.
