The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Roanoke Branch, is proud to present STEM Saturday: Concrete for Kids. ASCE’s mission is to lead the civil engineering profession to sustainably advance and protect the health, safety and welfare of all. By investing in the community and providing fun and free events for children to engage with science and engineering, the Roanoke Branch hopes to spark interest and inspire a lifelong love of learning for children of all ages.
Our Concrete for Kids event connects K-12 students in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding region with professional civil engineers and local college students studying to become engineers. Students will have the opportunity to help mix concrete, assist with testing the strength of concrete beams by breaking them, and learn more about why concrete is such an important building material for engineers.
Each student’s registration will also include vouchers which can be redeemed at the food truck on site, and drink tickets which can be redeemed at Parkway Brewing. There are a variety of non-alcoholic beverage choices available, and adults (21+) may use the drink tickets to try some of the best local beer, brewed right here in Virginia!
