Costume Balance Policy
This season, dancers must have a $0 balance on their account in order to take costumes home after their fitting appointment. If there is an outstanding balance at the time of the fitting, the costume will remain at the studio and will be released once the balance is paid in full.
Caring for your Costumes
Once the costume has been sent home, you are responsible for the loss of any accessories, tights or the costume itself. Replacement costs will apply. Please keep it in a safe spot and do not wear it for dress-up or other purposes until after all performances are complete! Please ensure your child does not wear their costume other than for recital-related events. (After recital please feel free to strut around town in it!) Washing and drying costumes at home as well as dry cleaning costumes is NOT recommended. When it doubt, please contact us for further instructions.
Tights
All female dancers are required to be in tan tights for picture day and recital day (hip hop dancers are excused from this requirement).
Underwear is typically not worn under dance costumes, as tights fulfill both hygienic and modesty purposes. In the case that your dancer feels most comfortable, underwear must be skin-colored and must not be visible beneath your child’s costume.
Please have your child wear recital undergarments to picture day so we can ensure it is appropriate for performance.
Additional costume information:
For Finale: Dancers are to wear their recital t-shirt and black bottoms. If they are the last dance of the show they will put their recital shirt over their costume.
Any jewelry or accessories not included with the costume shall not be worn to performance. No socks, corsages, jewelry etc. These items will be removed by our backstage staff and returned at the end of the show.
Makeup
For female dancers, makeup is required for the recital. Stage lights are incredibly bright and can wash out a dancer’s features, making it difficult for the audience to see their facial expressions. Wearing makeup helps enhance their features and ensures their hard work shines on stage.
Dancers in our combo and expressive movement classes are not required to wear full stage makeup, but blush, eyeshadow, lipstick, and mascara are necessary to help bring their expressions to life. All other dancers should wear full stage makeup, including foundation, blush, eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick. Please refer to the video tutorials below for Recital makeup.
Makeup is not required for picture week, but dancers are welcome to wear it if they'd like.
Thank you for helping us create a polished and professional performance!
Hair
To ensure a polished and uniform appearance for recital, all dancers must follow the hair guidelines below:
All Female Dancers: Hair should be styled in a middle-part, slicked-back ponytail. The ponytail must be neat, smooth, and free of flyaways to maintain a clean, polished look.
Male Dancers: Hair should be styled neatly and in a polished way, ensuring it is kept out of the face. A sleek, controlled look is preferred to maintain a professional appearance.
Hair Ties: Dancers should use hair ties that match the natural color of their hair. This ensures a uniform and cohesive appearance.
Hair Products: To achieve a smooth, sleek look, all hair should be styled with gel and hairspray. This will help keep your hair in place and prevent any flyaways during the recital.
Bangs: Any bangs must be securely pinned back and kept out of the face for safety and visibility.
These guidelines help ensure all dancers look their best for the recital. Thank you for your cooperation in following these standards.
