In Texas, the homestead exemption helps homeowners reduce the taxable value of their primary residence, thereby lowering their property taxes. This exemption applies to the appraised value of the home, meaning the market value is adjusted for tax purposes.
Homestead Exemption: Beginning in 2025, the state homestead exemption for school property taxes is scheduled to increase from $100,000 to $140,000, unless voters decide otherwise in November 2025.
Home value below $140,000: Based on appraisal value, no school property taxes.
