As part of the Kanab Arts Board's annual Kanab Arts Festival, we present the Chalk It Up Contest, one of our community's most awaited art events of the year! This contest is open to all – locals, tourists, and out of towners. As they say, the more, the merrier! As long as you can fnish your chalk art in the allotted time, you can join in! We have all new categories and all new cash prizes.
We’re excited to share that we have professional chalk artists joining us this year! These talented artists are here to share their skills and creativity with all of us — they’re not part of the competition. As you enjoy the festival, keep an eye out for them as they work on their amazing chalk creations. Stop by, say "hi," and watch their process — they love talking with visitors and sharing their passion for art!
Registration Button is at the bottom of the page. Before you register, please read our full schedule and guideline below.
Annmarie Geniusz is an interdisciplinary artist/illustrator. She is best known recently for her botanical illustrations, and large scale chalk murals at festivals. She has been working at national level chalk art festivals for several years. Her work often involves whimsical characters and narrative inspired scenes. She draws inspiration from her long history as a conservation volunteer, her hiking addiction, and her love of sci-fi/fantasy.
She graduated suma cum laude, with a B.A. in Studio Art and Geology from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She received art training at the University of Montana-Missoula, and the University of Alaska- Fairbanks, as well as at the Memphis College of Art, and the Milwaukee Art Institute. Her current volunteer work includes assisting with set up/planning for Duluth All Souls Night, and as the Art Coordinator for Wussow’s Concert Cafe.
She is a Canadian-American indigenous artist of Cree-Metis descent, who has called Duluth, Minnesota home for 19 years. She grew up in Wisconsin. She is married with a fine fleet of feline children.
As a self-taught professional sidewalk chalk artist, Jamie Vandenberg has honed her skills over 10 years, with seven of those years spent competing in sidewalk chalk competitions. Her impressive work earned her the 2025 Best In Show award at the Chalk It Up Competition hosted by the Harrington Center for the Arts in Lehi, Utah.
Her artistic journey hasn't been limited to chalk; she's also explored other mediums like charcoal, watercolor, pastels, markers and colored pencils. By teaching sidewalk chalk camps and volunteering at local public schools, Jamie shares her passion for art with others, inspiring her students to compete and showcase their talents.
