Pulmonary drug delivery and inhalation products are of paramount importance in modern medicine, primarily for treating respiratory diseases like asthma, COPD, and cystic fibrosis by delivering medication directly to the lungs, the site of diseases. This targeted approach maximizes therapeutic effects while minimizing systemic side effects compared to the traditional systemic delivery systems of medications. Furthermore, the large surface area and rich vascularization of the lungs allow for rapid absorption into the bloodstream, making inhalation a viable route for systemic drug delivery as well, offering a non-invasive alternative to injections for certain medications and potentially bypassing first-pass metabolism in the liver. Advancements in inhalation devices and formulations continue to improve drug delivery efficiency, patient convenience, and overall treatment outcomes. The global inhalation product market is substantial and continues to grow due to the rising prevalence of respiratory diseases and technological advancements in drug delivery.
As an emerging area, there is a high demand for a professional and comprehensive workshop to promote the fundamental understanding of the Inhalation products and pulmonary drug delivery, and discussing the emerging areas. The targeted audience at this workshop will be graduate students, industry professionals, regulatory agents who are working in the area of inhalation products. The topics of this workshop include:
Fundamentals of aerosol generation and deposition
Inhalation devices
Formulations for inhalation products
Excipients for inhalation products
Biopharmaceutics of inhalation products: cellular interactions and PK/PD
Bioequivalence of generic inhalation products (in vitro dissolution, IVIVC etc.)
Emerging inhaled biologics (proteins, gene therapies, vaccines, nanocarriers etc.)
