During the Japanese colonial period, the Xihu Art Museum, also known as the "Xihu Village Hall", was the highest administrative organization in the Xihu area.
What is "Zhuangyachang"? The village office is now the township office/town office/district office. Preliminary research shows that Xihuzhuangyachang was established around Taisho 9 (i.e. 1920 AD), after the implementation of the "street village system" in Taiwan.
However, in the 10th year of Showa (1935 AD), an earthquake occurred in central Taiwan, causing the Zhuangyachang to collapse.
Local gentry donated land, and the new Xihu Village Yard was completed half a year later.
Some research data speculates that the current Keiho Shogyojo was built after moving from the old site in the 10th year of the Showa era (1935 AD); Wikipedia records: Keiho Soyojo was built on June 1, the 18th year of the Showa era (1943 AD).
On April 10, 2002, the 91st year of the Republic of China, Xihu Village Hall was registered as a historical building.
In the 97th year of the Republic of China (2008 AD), the Xihu Town Office was moved to a new building.Xihu Village Hall was renamed "Xihu Art and Culture Center".
On October 23, the 111th year of the Republic of China (2022 AD), the renovation was completed.
Xihu Art Museum (Xihu Zhuangyangchang) is a two-story reinforced concrete brick building. The exterior is geometric in shape, showing an Art Deco architectural style. The facade roof is a gabled parapet. There are three arches decorated with clay sculptures below the mountain. There are curly grass relief decorations in the semicircle. There are long windows on both sides, and there is a door in the middle that leads to the front balcony. The frame is constructed using washed stones.
The building includes: long window design, washed stone walls, reliefs, and tiled pitched roofs, etc. The overall shape exudes a simple and elegant temperament, which is different from the gorgeous feeling of Baroque style.
