980-0845 Miyagi, Sendai, Aoba Ward, Aramaki, Aoba-6-6
Look for signs directing you to the Sendai Station (Subway).
BE CAREFUL:
This is different from the JR Sendai Station and is underground. Entrances can be found after exiting on the west side of JR Sendai Station on the ground floor (street-level).
After entering the station, look for signs directing you to the Tozai Line. After descending the escalators, look for the side that says
"To Yagiyama Zoological Park"
This is the train you will ride to Aobayama Station.
After getting off at Aobayama Station, exit the ticket gates, go left and follow the signs for North Exit 1.
1
Once the pedestration signal turns green, cross the street and continue straight along the right side of the athletic field.
2
Once past the athletic field, continue straight towards the hill.
3
Continue down the hill.
Future Hall, see above, will become visible on your left side.
4
Continue down until you reach the road entrance of these buildings. Take a left and enter the sliding doors to Future Hall.
Navigation
Google Maps is the recommended app for general navigation and is usually accurate on train times, platforms, and station entrance locations. Most locations can be found through an English search, but if you are having trouble, we have linked Google Map locations of important places throughout the website.
Ticketing
Like most trains, you will need to either buy a ticket or use an IC Card when traveling on the subway. When at a ticketing machine, look for an English button in a corner of the screen to translate the machine. You can only buy tickets with cash.
When buying a single-use ticket, select the station you wish to go to. Insert this ticket into the right hand side of the entrance gates and do not forget to take it when it spits back out on the other side. Carry this ticket with you to your destination and insert it the same as you did when you entered the gates. When exiting the gates, the ticket will not be returned, so do not worry about it.
IC Cards
Alternative to a paper ticket, you can load an IC Card with an arbitrary amount of money to use when riding the subway. Almost all IC Cards can be use universally to ride any train line and automatically deducts fares from the balance on the card. You should be able to buy an IC Card upon landing at an airport or at any major station. Due to a chip shortage, IC Cards were temporarily unavailable for purchase, but this is no longer the case as of September 2024. See this reddit post for a more in-depth explanation and guide on how to get and use IC Cards.

Payment Methods
Generally speaking, credit cards and cashless payment methods are accepted in most places. With that being said, it is wise to carry enough cash to cover expenses in case there is trouble with using cards and other digital payment methods. Some shops and restaurants, including the dining halls on campus, only accept cash.
