Rules & Logistics 

Pre-Tournament Notes 

• Team Captains and coaches will have a meeting at 8:30 am on court 1- All teams must have a representative present 

• Courts open at 8 am

• Reffing teams must be present at 8:30 am

• First serve is at 9 am with full court warm-ups starting at 8:50 am

• Spectators are welcome with a $10 entry fee (students with their school ID can enter at no cost)

• Parking is located in the RSF Parking Garage for $12 for a day pass. The location is shown under the parking map tab

• There will be an outdoor team patio where teams can set up tables and food between matches. Look under the map tab to see the location 

• Results will be uploaded live on this sheet, and we will have a QR code to this website on the tournament desk 

• Players must wear a shirt/jersey with a number on it 

• There will be a break from 12pm-1pm 

• Teams will be reffing at all times except for the break, so make sure coaches/captains refer to this document or tournament desk for their reffing duties 

Warm Ups 

• Team will get 5 minutes of shared warm up times after the previous match 

• Teams will then get 5 minutes of full court time each

• Total warm up time: 15 minutes 

• Matches will start on the hour sharp assuming the previous match has finished with enough time left for warm ups 

Reffing 

• Matches must be reffed fully by the reffing team

• Reffing teams must provide two line judges, a scorekeeper, a down-ref, an up-ref, and a bookkeeper 

• Refs should call in captains for the coin toss during the first 5 minutes of warm-up 

• R1 has the final call during play 

General Rules 

• UC Berkeley game balls will be used. Please keep on the court at all times and do not use for warm-ups 

• Warm-up balls will NOT be provided

• USAV Women's Volleyball rules apply 

• All matches are best of 3 sets (25, 25, 15) 

• Matches are a win-by-2, no point cap 

• Teams will switch sides between sets 1 and 2 and at 8 points in a third set 

• Substitutions - Teams will now be allowed 15 substitutions per set (previously 12 per set).

• Liberos - Teams may now choose to designate zero, one, or two liberos EACH SET.

• Doubles are now allowed on the second contact, as long as the ball stays on your side. (Doubling the 2nd contact to the other side will be considered an illegal play)

• Rankings will be determined in the following order: matches, sets, point differential

• No food or beverage (except water) is allowed inside the RSF Building 

• Food/Beverage OK on team patio (See map)
