Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time for the Concrete for Kids event this year!!
It’s hard to believe, but our Concrete for Kids event is coming up fast! We are expecting about 150 local K–12 students along with their families, totaling over 300 people in attendance. The Roanoke ASCE Branch has a strong drive to provide meaningful professional development opportunities to our members, while at the same time, passing down our passion and knowledge for civil engineering to the next generation in the Southwest VA Community. Our Roanoke ASCE Board Members are very excited to have committed to organizing this STEM educational event for our community this spring. While we are very enthusiastic about the opportunities to provide STEM education to our community, we are but a mighty Board of seven and need your help.
In 2023, we had over 40 volunteers for our event! The Concrete for Kids event wouldn't have been a success without our volunteers and we deeply appreciate your interest in volunteering your time for this year. For all registered volunteers, we provide food truck vouchers and 2 beverage tickets as our way to say thank you!

Here are some helpful notes for volunteering at Concrete for Kids:
Parking is *really limited* at Parkway Brewing. A parking map is attached and we ask that all volunteers carpool if you can, ride in the college vans (VT students) and park offsite at designated areas after unloading.
Setup will begin at 9 AM and all volunteers should expect to be onsite no later than 10 AM. Make sure to allow for time to walk to the site since some of the alternate parking areas are not immediately next to the brewery. We will provide a brief overview, training and talking points sheet for the concrete mixing stations starting at 10 AM.
Anyone interested in helping with early setup at 9 AM, please reach out to Chris or Phillip directly.
Be prepared to get dirty! Wear closed toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty.
This event is planned to be rain or shine. We will have pop up tents for each concrete station to help with any weather challenges but check the forecast before you head out and dress accordingly.
