Bonspiel Rules
A Event | B Event | C Event | D Event
This Bonspiel shall be governed by the current edition of the official “Curling Rule Book” unless otherwise stated below.
Free Guard Zone Rule (5 rock rule) shall be in effect
The no-tick rule is NOT in effect.
GAME TIME RESTRICTIONS:
All games will be eight ends in length.
The buzzer will sound 1 hour and 35 minutes after the posted starting time.
Once the buzzer is sounded, finish the end you are playing and play one more.
Please note that the previous end is complete when the score of that end is agreed upon by both teams.
TIED GAMES:
Tied games will be decided by a throw to the button, with the exception of the semi-finals and finals which will be decided by an extra end*. The team that counted (scored) last will throw first.
The draw may be thrown by any member of the team with normal sweeping rules in effect.
Opposing teams may not sweep the other team’s rock at all.
The team rock finishing in the house and closest to the button will be declared the game winner. If neither rock finishes in the house, the end must be repeated with rocks delivered in the same order as previous attempts.
*For the semi-finals and finals only, if an extra end is played and results in a blank, the teams shall then draw to the button with the above rules applicable.
LATE PLAYERS/TEAMS
If one player is unable to commence play at the designated start time, the team can start playing the game with three players with the late player joining the game at a later time. If the late player joins in the middle of an end, that player is allowed to sweep but is not allowed to throw rocks until the next end. If there are two late players, the team is incomplete - see rule below.
If one team is unable to commence play at the designated start time, they will be assessed a penalty for every ten minutes the start of the game is delayed. The penalty consists of one point with one end being considered played. After thirty minutes, the game will be considered defaulted. If the game starts after a penalty is assessed but before the game is defaulted, the non-offending team will start with the hammer.
PLAYER ROTATION:
A team may declare a new rotation of play only when changing events. Substitute player(s) must remain at either lead or second unless there are extenuating circumstances as is deemed reasonable by the Bonspiel Committee.
SPARE ELIGIBILITY:
Spares cannot be a person who is registered or has played in the bonspiel
If a spare plays on a team twice, they will be considered a fifth player and cannot spare for another team.
Spares on Sunday:
In the event that a player is unable to play because of illness, accident or other extenuating circumstances as is deemed reasonable by the Bonspiel Committee, then another player who meets the eligibility requirements may permanently replace that player. This substitute must play lead unless the player was originally listed as a fifth player.
MISCELLANEOUS:
In case of a disputed rock, please call a member of the Bonspiel Committee.
NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES allowed on any curling ice.
ANY DECISIONS OF THE BONSPIEL COMMITTEE ARE FINAL.
