How to Submit Music for the Talent Show
Digital Music Submission - Mon, May 4th - Wed, May 20th
Any acts that require pre-recorded music must submit a digital music file by Wed, May 20th.
At your audition, we will play your music from our iTunes console.
If we don't receive your music by the deadline, your audition will be cancelled.
Digital Music Guidelines
Music files must be in MP3 format, cut to one minute or less.
Please follow file naming guidelines below.
Singing acts may use instrumental music only (no vocals on the sound track).
All content must be school appropriate. Look up the lyrics to all music and read carefully.
Your music will be reviewed for length, format, quality, and school appropriateness.
A Note On School Appropriateness
Mainstream music has become increasingly questionable with regard to school appropriateness.
Even songs that are approved by a private dance studio may not be approved for school use.
Here are some basic (but by no means comprehensive) guidelines for unacceptable music content:
Profanity or racial slurs of any kind
Degrading, sexualizing, or disrespectful to self or any group or gender
References to alcohol, drugs, sex, guns, violence, or self-harm
Content that encourages illegal activity of any kind
A good rule of thumb: if you are even questioning the content, choose a different song.
Naming Your Digital Music File
Please name your music file as follows:
[Student Names - Song Title].mp3
Example: Sally Smith Timmy Jones - Hot and Cold.mp3
If you have more than two performers, use first names only.
How to Cut Music
Once you have purchased and downloaded your student’s song selection from a music platform (we recommend iTunes), you can then import it into a music cutting app. We recommend MP3 Music Cutter on the App Store.
Instructions:
Download the app
Once open, click “edit music”
At the bottom, click iTunes, search for your music, and add it to the app
The app will then give you a couple tips (user guide)
On the editing page, select “trim” or “remove a part” and the rest should be relatively user friendly
The Play button allows you to listen to the cut
When finished, press the Save disc on bottom right, and label your song [student name - song title]
The file will be exported to the “my music” section in the app
Once there, you can easily share the music clip
