Carl holds a BASc degree in Systems Design Engineering from Waterloo and graduate degrees from CMU in Pittsburgh in Civil Engineering. He has experience in modularization, supply chain management, construction productivity, craft training, and digitalization of design and construction processes. His broader research interests include AI, human-robotic systems, and the circular economy in the built environment. Numerous industry and government partnerships support his research. As Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Waterloo between 2017 and 2022, he led rapid growth and renewal of staff, faculty, students and physical plant, including a new Architectural Engineering undergraduate program launched in 2018. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the US National Academy of Construction.
With nearly 30 years of experience, including 25 with Canam Group, Julie is a seasoned civil engineer, a graduate of Université Laval (B.Sc., 1995) with a Master's in Applied Sciences from Université de Sherbrooke (1998). She has built a solid career specializing in the design of steel structures and building systems, actively contributing to the advancement of the field. Julie has since held key roles, among others, designer in the steel joist department, systems design analyst, and senior structural engineer for Canam Building, particularly the Murox team. Her portfolio includes the design of over 200 projects in Canada and the United States, especially commercial and industrial buildings, showcasing her expertise across a wide variety of structures and her in-depth mastery of Canam Group's construction solutions. Currently a Business Development Engineer for Eastern Canada at Canam Group, Julie plays a crucial role in promoting the brand and establishing strategic partnerships with consulting engineering firms. An excellent communicator, she stands out for her ability to deliver captivating and relevant presentations. In the last year alone, she has led nearly 30 technical training sessions in the form of "Lunch-and-Learns," reaching over 200 engineers. Committed to sustainable development and circularity principles, she has held the Envision Sustainability Professional certification since 2024. Her technical leadership and innovative mindset position her as a key driver of growth in the construction industry.
Leslie has over 45 years of experience in project controls and project management on major capital projects across North America and internationally. He studied business, commerce, and industrial engineering at McGill University and has worked in a wide range of industries, including nuclear, pulp and paper, petrochemical, mining, metallurgy, and infrastructure. Over the course of his career, Leslie has held roles with both consulting and owner organizations, progressing from estimator and cost controller to senior project controls manager and project manager. He has also served in senior leadership positions such as Vice President of Project Services at SNC-Lavalin, General Manager of Project Services at Rio Tinto, and Global Director of Project Controls at Hatch. He is currently Managing Director of Project Controls at Techne PMC. Leslie has been an active member of AACE International for many years. He served as President of the Montreal Section, Regional Director, President of AACE Canada, and Vice President of Regions for North America. He was named a Fellow of AACE in 2012 and received the AACE Award of Merit in 2024. An accomplished author and speaker, Leslie has presented numerous technical papers at AACE conferences. He is also deeply involved in student outreach and has guest lectured at Concordia, McGill, Sherbrooke, and the University of Montreal.
