TRIP SUMMARY. international meeting
COME TO LA RIOJA AND CELEBRATE WITH US
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the Morgan Sports Car Club of Spain has the pleasure of presenting international members a great tour through one of our most beautiful and iconic regions: La Rioja, world famous for its quality wines and its amazing scenery.
Join us and other like minded Morgan drivers during this Morgan International Meeting and enjoy driving at its best!
Throughout the afternoon, participants will arrive on their own to the hotel
Silken villa de Laguardia, in La Rioja, where they will be welcomed by the organization staff and given the welcome packs.
The meeting will start with a welcome dinner (standing buffet).
(Those arriving by ferry from England are recommended to take the sailing from Portsmouth on Tuesday 15th October at 22.30h, arriving to Bilbao on Thursday, 17th October at 8:00 h)
Today there will be a visit to San Millan, where there will be a guided visit to Yuso, the Monastery where the first written evidence of the Spanish language was found.
After the visit, a scenic tour will take travellers through one of the less known parts of La Rioja mountains, with beautiful mountain passes and hidden villages along the way.
A packed lunch will be included so you can choose one of the amazing spots along the way to stop for lunch.
The route will take you back to Laguardia, where dinner will be served at the hotel.
A great scenery awaits travellers as they drive through the famous vineyards of La Rioja. The first stop will be in CVNE, one of the best-known wines in Spain, and after the visit and tasting the route will take you to the Balcon de la Rioja, a viewing point from where the views over the vineyards and villages of the region are amazing. The last stop will be at another winery where the group will have lunch.
Back at the hotel, there will be some free time for relaxing before dinner, which will be followed by an after-dinner party.
TRIP SUMMARY. extension tour
For those willing to enjoy other regions of Northern Spain, there is the possibility after the Morgam International Meeting in La Rioja to have a 4-night scenic tour, mainly in the regions of Castile-Leon and Cantabria.
Castile is famous for the never-ending cereal fields, and the Castles, but there is much more in a region which was once Roman and then a border land between the Christians and the Moorish kingdoms.
Cantabria is the place where some of the highest peaks in Spain (Picos de Europa) are very close to the sea. This region is well known for its impressive green scenery, great twisty mountain roads and very rich gastronomy...
From La Rioja to Cervera de Pisuerga the itinerary crosses Castile through empty backroads, and there will be time to stop in some of the many historical sites that are passed, like Fromista, one of the most important points of Saint James’ Way and a well-known town for having two beautiful examples of Romanesque architecture.
Before arriving at the Parador de Cervera de Pisuerga where the tour will stay tonight, the route will stop at La Olmeda, one of the largest Roman Villas found in the world, with more than 1500 square meters of mosaics.
Dinner will be at the Parador.
Picos de Europa is a National Park with peaks as high as 2600 meters. Driving across the mountain roads and gorges of this area is a great experience.
In the morning the route will be on beautiful back roads of the Fuentes Carrionas Natural Park and the San Glorio Mountain pass, and in just 90 miles km will reach Fuente De, where the stay will be at the Parador.
Potes is the main village along the way, and a stop here is recommended. After some free time in Potes, we can continue the route for another 14 miles. until arriving at Fuente Dé, where the stone walls show that this place was created by a mountain glacier. Those who wish to take a different view of the Picos may like to take the cable car that rises 750 meters above the valley to enjoy the views of Picos de Europa from almost 1850 meters! It’s a well recommended experience.
Dinner will be at the Fuente De Parador.
The narrow and twisty gorge of la Hermida is the only way out of the Picos de Europa Mountains to the North.
Just follow the Deva River (and the Road Book) and you will reach the sea and one of our favorite coastal drives that will take you to Santillana del Mar, a protected monumental village where we will park the Morgans at the Main Square as we enjoy a guided walk on its ancient cobbled streets.
The stay tonight will be at the Gran Hotel Puente Viesgo and dinner will be at the hotel.
Words are not enough to describe the roads on this last stage.
You need to drive them. Amazing mountain passes, green fertile valleys, remote villages, waterfalls… and when you get back to the hotel you will want to do it all over again.
Tonight, there will be a farewell cocktail and dinner at the hotel.
Breakfast is included at the hotel, and travellers can depart from Puente Viesgo to their places of origin.
