During the 22nd European Control Conference, to be held in Stockholm during 25-28 June 2024, a special session Women in Control will take place on Thursday, June 27, following the successful Women in Control event at the 21st European Control Conference, held in Bucharest, Romania, in 2023. The Women in Control lunch event aims to provide a networking opportunity for women. Its focus is to offer new perspectives on the current role of engineering, and particularly control engineering, along with discussions on programs, opportunities, and personal stories from women, in both academia and industry.
Program for the lunch event:
12:15-12:20: Introduction by prof. Maria Elena Valcher
12:20-12:45: Talks by Laura Dal Col (King Digital Entertainment) and Steffi Knorn (TU Berlin)
12:45-13:00: Mingle and open questions
King Digital Entertainment
Laura Dal Col is currently working as Engineering Manager at King Digital Entertainment, a Swedish video game developer known for Candy Crush Saga. She is a proud graduate of l'Universita degli studi di Padova, Ingegneria Dell'informazione, and after her graduation in 2013 she was inspired to pursue a PhD programme in Distributed Control of Multiagent systems at LAAS CNRS, Toulouse. She transitioned from academia to industry in 2017, when she moved to Sweden to join Scania Autonomous Transport Solutions, where she worked with algorithms and software development for autonomous driving.
Technische Universität Berlin
Steffi Knorn received the Dipl.Ing. degree from the University of Magdeburg, Germany, in 2008 and the Ph.D. degree from the Hamilton Institute, National University of Ireland Maynooth, Ireland, in 2013. In 2013, she was a Research Academic with the Centre for Complex Dynamic Systems and Control, University of Newcastle, Australia. Since 2014, she is with the Signals and Systems Division, Uppsala University, Sweden. From 2019 to 2021, she was an Assistant Professor with Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Since 2021, she is a Full Professor of Control with Technische Universität Berlin, Germany. Her research interests include stability analysis and controller design for marginally stable two-dimensional systems, port-Hamiltonian systems, string stability and scalability of vehicle platoons, distributed control, networked control, multisensor estimation, and energy harvesting and energy sharing in wireless networks. She is also involved in several outreach activities to promote control to a younger audience and to the general public.
