DANCE POINTE
Uniform Guide

At Dance Pointe we wear a class uniform because it promotes equality and allows us to focus on dancing rather than what we are wearing. Having everyone wear the same uniform in class will allow the teacher to see everyone’s body alignment properly and therefore make sure that the movements are learnt safely. Ensure hair is always neat and tidy, off your face - there is nothing more distracting than tickling flyaway hairs or a ponytail whiplash on turns.

Class uniform is compulsory from Tinies level and up, that's all school aged children's classes. It is expected that you get organised with the class uniform items within two weeks of starting your Dance Pointe class. We recommend all Australian Energetiks dance wear items, but you have the option to organise any brand uniform wear for your weekly dance class as long as it follows our uniform guidelines and colours. Choose plain items only with no large, visible logos and no other studio branded dance wear.

Trial students - wear anything comfortable for your trial class and class appropriate footwear or take the class barefoot.

Adult classes - no set uniform. Wear your preferred exercise items and class appropriate footwear.

Don't forget to bring along a water bottle for your class!

ballet buddies & ballet stars

No set class uniform. Wear anything comfortable for your class, or opt for the Ballet Tinies and or male uniform options.

Please note, fluffy skirts and tutu dresses are super cute, but they prevent the little dancers to see their feet at a quick glance and long skirts can be a trip hazard.

SHOES:
Ballet Buddies - barefoot or non-slip socks.
Ballet Stars - barefoot, non-slip socks or Ballet shoes (Ballet pink for girls, black for boys). If performing (this is optional at Dance Pointe), Ballet pink Ballet shoes and Ballet tights for girls and black Ballet shoes with white ankle socks for boys, are required. Organise your Ballet shoes and tights at Dance Pointe reception!

If you have chosen Ballet shoes with drawstrings, click HERE for instructions on how to prepare your Ballet shoes for classes.

Ballet - female uniform

LEOTARD:
Tinies and Primary levels - Energetiks Charlotte leotard (product code: CL/AL 04) in Ballet (pale) pink.
Junior levels - Energetiks Charlotte leotard (product code: CL/AL 04) in lilac.
Elementary levels - Energetiks Charlotte leotard (product code: CL/AL 04) in turquoise.
Intermediate levels - Energetiks Annabelle camisole (product code: CL/AL 11) in burgundy.
Advanced levels - Energetiks Annabelle camisole (product code: CL/AL 11) in black.

BALLET SKIRT:
Tinies, Primary and Junior levels - Energetiks Emily skirt (product code: CS17).
Elementary levels and up: Energetiks Melody wrap skirt (product code: CS/AS 01).

  • Match the colour with your leotard.
  • Please make sure to choose a Ballet skirt for your class. Fluffy skirts and tutu dresses are fabulous on stage, but they prevent the dancers to see their feet at a quick glance.
  • Primary and Junior level dancers can wear their skirt for the duration of the class.
  • Elementary dancers and up, you’re welcome to wear shorts or leggings for your class. Ballet wrap skirt may be worn after barre exercises.

SHOES - Ballet pink Ballet shoes with either convertible Ballet tights or matching Ballet/dance socks.

  • We recommend MDM brand Ballet shoes. Purchase these from Dance Pointe reception!
  • Why convertible tights? So that your dancer can easily transition from shoes to barefeet for Progressing Ballet Technique and pre-pointe exercises.

TIGHTS OR SOCKS?
We recommend wearing Ballet tights for your Ballet class throughout the year as the fabric absorbs sweat from the legs without obstructing the line or shape. Tights are required for exams and performances, so it’s also advisable to get used to wearing them in class beforehand. If wearing tights is not an option for you to wear for your weekly class, you’re welcome to wear Ballet/dance socks that match your Ballet shoe colour.

WINTER MONTHS
We highly recommend the Backalast, a compression wear posture jacket, for all our Ballet dancers and this can be worn throughout the year. Read more about it at https://www.backalast.com/. Alternatively wear a long sleeve plain Ballet cross over top matching to your leotard colour (black cross over top with burgundy leotard) or Dance Pointe studio wear. Leg warmers are also great for winter months. Please note you will be asked to remove t-shirts and loose items after our warm up exercises as baggy items will obstruct teacher to see your body alignment properly and therefore being unable to make sure you are dancing safely.

EXAMS
Exams are optional at Dance Pointe. If choosing to sit exams, all Ballet candidates are required to organise our preferred Energetiks brand and style uniform items listed above. Ballet exam candidates will also require hair blossoms matching to their leotard colour (Sue’s Shop, product code: HBLOSSOM, size: small for Tinies and Primary levels, size: medium for Junior levels and up).

PERFORMANCES
Performing is optional at Dance Pointe. If choosing to perform, be prepared to organise Ballet tights and Ballet pink Ballet shoes. Organise your Ballet shoes and tights at Dance Pointe reception! Costumes will be organised closer to the performance date and cost info will be available before we ask you to participate (budget $80-160 per costume). Dancers from Elementary level and up will require ribbons on their shoes.

Take this class barefoot and make sure your hair is neat and tidy, off your face. No ponytails or long braids for safety reasons.

WHY LEOTARD?
Acro Dance includes acrobatic elements and often also partnering. Majority of the class movements will result in loose clothing items to ride up. Therefore for safety and comfort of everyone in class, we recommend all students to wear form-fitting items that do not ride up.
