We invite three high school teachers from around the Lowcountry area to apply to our week-long, non-residential Math Research Experience this summer! We are looking for teachers excited about solving new math problems and about mentoring students.

Worried that you're unprepared to be a mentor or to do research? Don't be!  We'll be supporting you through this process.

Nine student participants will be divided into three groups of three students each.  Each group will have two mentors -- one high school teacher and one Citadel professor. The groups will work on solving problems from topics like Fibonacci numbers, number theory, combinatorics, statistics, and applied mathematics through the week. During the camp, students and teachers will learn about the research process by solving open problems from publications such as The Fibonacci Quarterly, The American Mathematical Monthly, The College Mathematics Journal, Mathematics Magazine, and Math Horizons. The teachers will develop mentoring skills through daily work with students and Citadel faculty. Students and teachers will learn LaTeX, a scientific word processing software, to submit their solutions for publication. Teachers will be financially supported to attend the 2025 South Carolina Junior Academy of Sciences annual meeting in order to support their students' presentations.

Teachers will attend mentoring training with the Citadel faculty prior to the camp.  The teacher/faculty teams will be determined this day and the problems will be explored.  During the camp, teachers will also form a research team and work on solving a problem.  Teachers will use this experience to enhance their mentoring skills.

Curious about problems solved during previous camps?
