Welcome, Northwest and Southwest Alpha Delta Kappa Sisters! Your Alpha Delta Kappa sisters from the host state of Washington are preparing an extraordinary experience for you on June 28 through July 3, 2024. We will be "Soaring on the Wings of Opportunity" while we are "Strengthened by the Roots of Tradition" at the Northwest/Southwest Joint Regional Conference. It’s a time to greet old friends and make new, lasting friendships. You will discover the diverse cultures of the states in our region. Opportunity sessions will broaden your horizons, refine your A∆K officer and leadership skills, explore world understanding and diversity, and expand your personal and professional horizons.
REGISTRATION – For the conference we will be registering online through Cvent. The form is now available. Sisters, please provide assistance to any who are not big fans of technology. To access the registration form, go to the International website's home page>events &networking>regional conferences>Northwest/Southwest (click here).
PRE AND POST TOURS - There will be tours to Seattle Center/Pikes Place Market and Bainbridge Island. Check out the tours page by going to the menu bar at the top of this page, click on 'More' and select Tours from the drop down menu. And, we are busy compiling a list of things to see and do right around the hotel as well as in the surrounding area. Watch this website for more details.
MEMBERSHIP SEMINAR - The Northwest and Southwest Regional Membership Consultants, Virginia Howard and Judy Ingham, respectively will share their enthusiasm and expertise with the leadership teams of each state. Together you will create opportunities and have a positive impact on your chapter and state membership. S/P/N Presidents, Presidents-Elect, Immediate Past Presidents and Vice Presidents for Membership will need to sign up for the seminars. The event is by invitation only. Watch for more information on this website from Virginia and Judy.
ASSISTANT SERGEANT-AT-ARMS – Come and meet sisters by volunteering to be an Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms. You will assist sisters and presenters and help us soar to where we need to be! Sign up on the Registration Form.
STATE LEADERSHIP PARADE - The first general session will start with a state leadership parade. A request will be sent to each S/P/N for photos of the new State Presidents’ logo and theme, as well as the names of the leadership team.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALTRUISM:
Northwest Harvest is the official altruistic project of the conference. Northwest Harvest believes that “food should be available, accessible, adequate and appropriate to all people.” They provide millions of pounds of food each year to a network of 375 food programs. You will have the opportunity to donate to Northwest Harvest on the Registration Form. There will also be a raffle of handmade quilted items donated by our sisters with all proceeds going to Northwest Harvest.
Attention All Quilters! If you would like to make an item for the raffle, please contact your state president with a description of the item. The quilted item can be any size quilt, a tote bag, a bureau runner, a wall hanging, etc. There are so many items that can be created! However, we want it to be portable to be easily packed in one’s suitcase. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to Northwest Harvest to support their mission.
Why quilts? “Quilts can be seen as cultural artifacts, reflecting the values, traditions, and stories of the communities that create them. Each stitch carries a piece of history, making quilts not just functional items but also powerful cultural symbols” (nancysnotions.com). We are strengthened by roots of tradition! With the diversity of our regions, we know these quilted items will be a highlight of the conference sales room.
“An Altruistic Hour” will be held Monday afternoon of the conference. There will be options for a Northwest Harvest hands on activity, an altruistic crafts project for the Alzheimer's Association, or a St. Jude's Walk or Alzheimer’s Walk. Make your choice on the Registration Form. Come and embrace the opportunity to make a positive impact on our world.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR FELLOWSHIP – There will be a Welcome Reception on June 28th from 6-8 PM. This reception will feature a chance to network, a no-host bar, and entertainment.
OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH OPPORTUNITY SESSIONS- There is much to learn! The opportunity sessions offer a diverse array of opportunities through workshops. There are leadership and officer specific training workshops, sessions for working educators and retirees, and sessions for altruism and world understanding. Our talented sisters and knowledgeable presenters are sharing their time and expertise to help you create a positive impact to our global community. State and chapter officers, please make your officer training a priority.
OPPORTUNITIES TO SHARE YOUR STATE’S CULTURE - A Cultural Faire will give each state an opportunity to showcase their state’s diversity - past, present, and future. Be as creative as you wish – share your activities and stories of how your S/P/N has created a diverse vision which has a positive impact on Alpha Delta Kappa and our world.
